The Apple TV allows you to watch TV shows, movies and podcasts right on your home television. The downloaded programs stream from your iTunes library. The Apple TV receiver connects to your computer and television using Ethernet and video component cables.
Instructions
1. Check your power connections if your TV screen has no video. Ensure that the LED light turns on. If it's not on, plug the power cord into another outlet. Verify that all of your cables are plugged in correctly to the Apple TV device and to your television, and check to see if your input settings match on the Apple TV and your TV.
2. Go to the Apple TV main menu by pressing and holding the Apple remote if your Apple TV does not respond, or if it's frozen. Unplug the Apple TV device or turn off the power button to reset everything. Wait for five seconds before trying again. You may have to restore your factory settings if the Apple TV still doesn't work.
3. Change audio cables or test the other audio outputs on Apple TV if you have no sound. Make sure your TV is set to digital settings if you use the HDMI audio port on the Apple TV device. If you are using a receiver with your Apple TV, make sure that is turned on.
4. Set your Apple TV to work with the Apple Remote if the remote status light does not flash. The light will indicate whether the remote works. From the Apple TV main menu, pick "Settings," then select "Pair Remote Control." Point the remote directly at the receiver to play, stop or rewind your downloads right on your television.
5. Change your preferences if you don't want other Apple TVs to appear on your wireless network. Go to "Preferences" in iTunes and choose "Apple TV." Deselect "Look for Apple TVs" so that other Apple TVs don't appear in your network.
6. Restore your Apple TV's factory settings if you've tried steps One through Five above with no positive results. Press the "Menu" and "Menu down/Scroll down" buttons on the remote. Wait for six seconds or until an amber-colored light blinks on the remote. Select a language, then choose "Factory Restore."
7. Verify your Apple TV's IP address if it doesn't respond to your computer's wireless network. Make sure your router is properly configured to work with your Apple TV. If necessary, disable your wireless network security temporarily, then reconnect your router to your Apple TV.
