Convert A Car Amp Speaker Wire Input To Rca Plugs

Car amp speaker terminals are easy to use, but you may want to change your car amp speaker wire inputs to RCA plugs for a variety of reasons. For example, with RCA plugs, you can change speakers quickly to demonstrate how different speakers sound when connected to the same amplifier. With a little bit of effort and the right parts, you can convert your car amp speaker wire inputs to RCA plugs by following these steps.

Instructions

1. Cut a piece of speaker wire, 6 inches long. Strip the insulation off both ends, so that 1/2 inch of bare wire is visible.

2. Solder the positive lead of the speaker wire to the center post of your female RCA connector. Then solder the negative lead of the speaker wire to the tab on the side of the female RCA connector. When the solder is cool, wrap these in electrical tape to prevent shorts.

3. Unscrew the set screw terminals of your amp's speaker wire input terminals. Place the positive lead of the speaker wire into the terminal and tighten until secure. Place the negative lead of the speaker wire into the terminal and tighten until secure.

4. Repeat Steps 1 to 3 if you have more speaker wire input terminals that need to be converted to an RCA female connection. The number of speaker terminals on your amp depends upon the number of channels in your amplifier. If the amplifier is a mono amplifier, there is only one set. For a two-channel amplifier there are two sets, and for a four-channel amplifier there are four.
