Repair A Panasonic Palmcorder

The Palmcorder's camera heads need to be cleaned periodically.

The Panasonic Palmcorder camera allows users to shoot video in 440 Kpix resolution. It can also snap 2.3-megapixel photographs. Like any camera, the Palmcorder can break down. Common issues include power failure, a dirty lens and dirty camera heads. All of these problems can be fixed by the everyday user, however. Fixing these problems yourself saves you the trouble of sending the camera to be repaired.

Instructions

Clean Camera Lens

1. Clean off the camcorder lens with a soft cloth. The cloth should be free of lint and dirt.

2. Dab the cloth into a camera lens cleaning solution. The cloth should be lightly damp and not dripping wet.

3. Wipe the camera lens with the soft wash cloth. Go slowly to avoid scratching the lens.

Power Issues

4. Turn the camcorder on and off using the power button. The button sits right next to the red record button. If the camera does not start up, turn it off again. Press and hold the power button for 30 seconds. This will restore the Palmcorder to factory settings. Press the power button again and observe the results.

5. Cool down the Panasonic Palmcorder battery. The camera battery sits on the back of the Palmcorder. Press the small gray button on camera's backside. The battery will pop out of position. Slide it off slowly to avoid damage.

6. Place the camera battery in a room temperature environment. Let it cool down for 30 minutes.

7. Slide the camera battery into the designated slot. The battery has arrows on the sides to indicate the direction to slide. The arrows should be moving up as you insert it. Press the power button again to attempt another startup.

8. Plug the AC power adapter into the camera's power slot. The Palmcorder has a small black hole beneath the battery for an AC adapter input. This input allows you to operate the camera from an electrical outlet. Insert the AC adapter end and plug the other side of the cable into an outlet. Press the power button. If the camera does not start up, it must be repaired by the Panasonic support team. Check the Palmcorder owner's manual for the repair hotline number.

Clean Camera Heads

9. Eject the current Mini DV tape from the Palmcorder. Press the "Eject" button on the side right side of the camera. Pull out the DV tape.

10. Insert a camera head cleaning tape. Clean tapes wash away dirt and oil stuck to the camera heads. Place the cleaning tape into the open DV slot. Close the covering.

11. Play the cleaning tape inside the Palmcorder. Look for the switch surrounding the red record button. Flick this switch towards the play symbol. Press the "Play" button on the camera's left side. The camera will begin playing the cleaning tape.
