Make A Shoulder Strap

Make a Shoulder Strap

If you are in need of a new shoulder strap, such as those used with guitars, you can be super thrifty, green and creative, and make your own. Look through your closet to find old vinyl or leather belts, and get ready to have a cool strap. Guitar straps from the store are expensive and a waste of material for something that can be made so easily at home.

Instructions

1. Look through your closet or your closest thrift store for an old leather (or vinyl) belt. The belt should be long enough to hold your guitar comfortably for maximum playing power. Remember you won't use the buckle end, so don't count that in your calculations.

2. Measure where the slits will go to attach your strap to the guitar. Pick up your guitar, and hold the strap around your body. Find the location on the belt where the guitar is held most comfortably. Mark the spot with a marker.

3. Begin making slits with a strong pair of scissors or a craft knife. Start small; you always can make the slits bigger.

4. Attach the strap to the guitar, and play your favorite song.
