Underwater Photography Schools

Underwater photography requires special camera equipment and an understanding of underwater camera techniques to be able to take proper underwater photographs. There are several underwater photography schools that teach the necessary skills needed to take beautiful pictures underwater.


Jim Church School of Underwater Photography


The Jim Church School of Underwater Photography is operated by Mike Haber and Mike Mesgleski, associates of the underwater photographer Jim Church. The school is operated on the Aggressor Fleet, which travels to places such as Belize, the Cayman Islands, the Galapagos Islands and Fiji. Each course is a week long, with instruction on land and underwater that include presentations, photography critiques, demonstrations and help taking photographs under the water. There are courses included for beginning and advanced underwater photographers, digital underwater photography and post production.

Nikon School of Underwater Photography


The Nikon School of Underwater Photography teaches digital underwater photography programs every week in Bonaire, one of the islands in the Netherlands. Nikon offers an underwater photography package complete with seven night hotel reservations, diving equipment rental, six days of diving and Nikon SLR digital camera rentals complete with all the needed camera equipment. Rates vary depending on the type of hotel and time of the year.

SEA&SEA School of Underwater Photography


The SEA&SEA School of Underwater Photography in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, offers a variety of one- to four-day classes for underwater photographers of all skill levels. The SEA&SEA school places emphasis on education about equipment handling and maintenance, marine environment protection and diver safety. Classes include digital underwater photography training at beginner, intermediate, and advanced levels, and a course on use underwater photography and Adobe Photoshop. Discounts are available for signing up for several courses at once.
