Nikon Coolpix L10 Instructions

Released in the summer of 2007, the Nikon Coolpix L10 is a 5 megapixel point-and-shoot digital camera with a 3x optical zoom. The Coolpix L10 lack a powerful zoom, but has a compact lens with aperture ranges suitable for photography in various light levels. This camera is appropriate for beginners. Most of the features are automated, and the wide range of scene shooting modes makes photography in possible in various settings.


Instructions


Setting Up the Camera


1. Flip the camera upside down and slide the release latch on the battery cover to the side. Then push the battery cover forward to release it. Insert two AA batteries as indicated on the camera and close the battery cover.


2. Open the memory card cover on the right side of the camera to insert a memory card. Make sure to line up the contacts as indicated, with the labeled side of the memory card facing the front of the camera.


3. Press the power button on top of the camera to turn the camera on. Set the time and date and press "OK." If you purchased this camera used, the time and date may already be set, but you can change the settings by accessing the menu at any time.


Taking Photos and Video


4. Turn the camera on. Slide the "Mode" selector on the back of the camera to the left to "Auto" mode (indicated by a camera icon). On the LCD screen, the camera displays the battery life in the top right corner and the number of shots remaining in the bottom right. If the battery indicator does not appear, the batteries are fully charged and ready. When the battery sign appears, get spare batteries ready if you plan on shooting for an extended period.


5. Frame your photo by looking through the LCD screen. Press left on the zoom button (W) to zoom out, or the right button (T) to zoom in. When you are ready to take the shot, press the shutter button down half way to focus the camera. The box in the middle of the frame will turn green when the shot is focused. Press the shutter button down fully to take the shot.


6. Press the "Menu" button while in "Auto" mode to show the shooting menu. Here you can adjust the white balance (for the type of light in the area of shooting), change the color options (to shoot in black and white) and change the size of the recorded image. Press down on the "Control" pad (the flower icon) to enable "Macro" mode, which is used for taking close-up photos. Press up on the "Control" pad to toggle the "Flash" mode, from "Auto" to "Forced," or from "Red-Eye" reduction to "Fill" mode.


7. Slide the selector bar to the right to the icon of the movie camera to take videos. Frame the video as you would a photo, by looking at the LCD, and zooming appropriately. Press the shutter button half way to focus, and then all the way down to begin recording. Press the shutter button fully again to end recording.


8. Press the "Play" button at any time to review photos and videos. Scroll through your images using the "Control" pad, and press the "Trash Can" icon to delete media.
