Use Fd Lenses On A Digital Canon

For some photographers, the new line of Digital Canon SLR cameras are not their first Canon camera. Many people owned older manual focus Canon film cameras with FD lenses. You can use your older FD lenses with a Digital Canon camera, provided you have the right adapter. However, there are some restrictions--you must only use the manual mode and the focusing is done at full aperture. This makes it hard for some people to get crisp sharp pictures that are in focus. But for those who are willing to try, you can save some money using your older lenses on your newer camera.

Instructions

1. Buy an FD to EOS lens adapter from a reputable camera store. There are many different kinds of adapters out there and you want to make sure you buy one that is electronically chipped for your camera. Canon made a few adapters, but they have since been discontinued.

2. Screw the FD-EOS adapter to your camera body. It will fit into the body the same way a lens does. Align the red dot on the adapter with the red dot on the camera body and turn it until it locks in place.

3. Screw in your camera lens the same way you would normally attach it to the camera body. The only difference will be the adapter is between your lens and the camera body. Some of the adapters contain optical glass that will act as a multiplier to your lens. This means the zoom will be closer than you would normally expect.

4. Turn your camera on and start shooting. Remember that your autofocus will not work, so you will have to focus everything manually.
