The Differences Between The Escort 8500 & 8500 X50

The Escort Passport 8500 X50 is an updated form of radar detector.

The Escort Passport 8500 X50 is a radar or laser detector, and is considered the updated version of the 8500 model. The device is used by motorists to alert them when police radar and cameras are monitoring their speed. The Escort Passport 8500 X50 includes some new features not included with the original Passport 8500.

K and Ka-Band Radar Detection

The Escort Passport 8500 X50 can detect K and Ka-band radar over a greater range, boasting as much as a 50 percent increase in range compared with the original model. K and Ka-band radar are the most common types of radar by traffic enforcement authorities in the U.S.

Selectable POP Mode

The Escort Passport 8500 X50 includes a selectable POP mode, which the company claims lets the user know of any ultra-fast, instant-on POP radar signals in the vicinity. POP technology is a patented invention of speed camera manufacturer, MPH Industries. In POP mode, a radar emits a very fast pulse that sends back a recording of vehicle speed in a fraction of a second, which MPH Industries claims is quick enough to bypass most radar detectors.

Safety Warning System (SWS)

The Escort Passport 8500 X50 does not display Safety Warning System (SWS) messages in full but will alert the driver if one is detected as a K-band signal. SWS messages are designed to be sent to motorists with devices that can receive them, alerting them to possible hazards or issues that may concern them. This could include traffic delays, the presence of emergency vehicles on the road or construction works in a lane ahead.

New Design

The Escort Passport 8500 X50 also differs from the earlier model in that it includes new circuitry and antenna designs.
