Perform A Simple Uv Light Test At Home

UV light, also known as ultraviolet or black light, uses light wavelengths that are not on the spectral scope of the naked eye. Substances showing up in a UV light test include stains, such as human fluid and petroleum jelly, that escape the human eye. Performing a simple UV light test in your home can determine if your house is clean.

Instructions

1. Close the drapes and doors to prevent light from entering the room. If light seeps in, place towels over the cracks underneath the doors and tape garbage bags to the windows to block out light. The darker the room the better your results.

2. Grip the UV light with the light emanating away from your eyes. Consult the UV light manual for specific directions.

3. Remove anything covering a surface, such as bed comforters, slipcovers, bed sheets or pillowcases, to adequately test the surface.

4. Turn on the UV light and hold it at least two feet from the object you are examining. Stains will appear luminescent under the UV light.

5. Remove any articles with stains and place them in the washer. Mark stains on the wall with a pencil mark and place a piece of tape on furniture or floor stains so you can locate them later when you clean.
