Store Rechargeable Batteries In The Refrigerator

Even when not in use, batteries can lose their charge over time. Some battery types, such as alkaline batteries, do not discharge much at room temperature. Other battery types, such as nickel-metal hydride batteries (Ni-MH), discharge at a more rapid pace. You can reduce the amount of battery discharge in Ni-MH rechargeable batteries by placing them in a cold location, such as the refrigerator or freezer.

Instructions

1. Place the batteries in a watertight container or plastic storage bag. If you use a plastic storage bag, make sure it is thick and sealed. Consider placing a second bag around the first to keep the batteries from getting wet.

2. Stick the container or storage bag holding the batteries near the back of the refrigerator to reduce the chance of spills contaminating the batteries.

3. Remove the container from the refrigerator when you are ready to use the batteries. Pull the batteries out and let them sit until they return to room temperature. The batteries are now ready for use.
