Paint Foam Core Board

Foam core can be painted for fine art or craft purposes.

Foam core boards are lightweight boards made with a foam center and paper or plastic exteriors. They are used in graphic design as well as fine arts due to their availability and ease of use. Foam core is also used for backdrops as it can be cut to various sizes depending on what it is being used for. The surfaces of foam core boards can be painted if the artist or designer wishes, depending on the nature of the work being created.

Instructions

1. Paint the foam core board with gesso, which is a primer used to harden and seal surfaces such as foam core and canvas. Use even paint brush strokes and cover the sides as well as the front of the board. Allow the gesso time to dry completely before painting over it.

2. Paint the foam core board with acrylic or oil paint for best results, utilizing a paint brush. Paint the board all one color or use it as a canvas to paint something else.

3. Allow the paint to dry completely before displaying your artwork or using as a backdrop for something else. Foam core board works well as background material in plays, fashion shows and for holiday decor.
