Use A Vivitar 283 On A Digital Camera

Upgrade the flash on your camera to a Vivitar 283.

A Vivitar 283 is an attachable flash you can use on any camera--digital and film based--that has a flash port on the top of the camera. Smaller digital cameras are not going to have this particular port, however larger digital SLR cameras offer the flash support, so you shouldn't have any issues connecting. Once installed you can begin using your larger, more powerful flash while taking pictures.

Instructions

1. Replace the batteries on your digital camera. The new flash is going to zap the energy fast, so you need new, fresh batteries.

2. Slide the Vivitar 283 onto the metal clamp on the top of the digital camera. The metal clamp tubs against the metal connector of the flash, allowing the signal for the flash to run from the camera.

3. Set your camera to use flash. A button on the camera sets the flash from "Off," to "Auto" or "On." The "Auto" function reads the surrounding light to see if you need a flash or not.

4. Take a picture. If you need the extra light or if on "On" the flash fires right before taking the picture. Adjust the hight of the flash if you want the flash above people instead of directly in their faces. You can simply pull up on the flash to point it in a different direction.
