Navigon 7100 Vs Garmin

Not everyone is good with directions or finding a new location for the first time. Luckily there are a multitude of GPS devices to help directionally challenged people get where they need to go without getting lost.

Size

Like most GPS devices, the Navigon 7100 and the majority of Garmin units have a 4.3 inch wide-screen display that makes viewing directions while driving easy. Compared to similarly priced GPS devices, the Navigon 7100 is larger in size. Measuring 5.1 inches wide by 3.5 inches in height by 0.9 inches deep and weighs just 7 ounces. On the other hand most Garmin models are roughly 4.8 inches wide by 3 inches in height.

Points of Interest

The Navigon 7100 offers many features to help drivers locate a particular address or find notable points of interest along their route. Popular locations such as banks, restaurants, stores and hotels are pre-programmed into the unit. Garmin units have some locations pre-programmed but the list isn't as extensive as the options on the 7100. When searching for a destination on the Navigon users can search by address, zip code or state.

Display

When using the Navigon 7100 the display can seem overly cluttered because of the sheer number of options available. Depending on the function being used, the turn by turn map can get lost on the screen as more and more icons are displayed. The good news is that many of the icons displayed can be turned off if not in use thus making the device easier to read. Garmin units are more basic than the Navigon and don't have as many options cluttering the screen.

Navigon Advanced Features

The Navigon 7100 offers many advanced features that aren't available on other devices. One of the most popular features is Reality View. Reality View offers three dimensional images of upcoming intersections making it easier to navigate through congested areas. The Navigon 7100 is also equipped with a detour option. While this option is also offered on Garmin devices, the detour option on the Navigon doesn't take drivers as far out of the way as Garmin devices do.

Garmin Advanced Features

Losing the car in a parking lot you aren't familiar with is a problem for many people. Garmin systems are equipped to help users find their car in a sea of vehicles. When the unit is removed from the vehicle it notes the location where it was last attached to the base and with a few quick touches of the screen users of the device can find the vehicle again once the user exits the building.
