If you have a Motorola W220 and want to change cellular service providers, don't lose hope. There is software you can buy that produces unlocking codes based on the Motorola W220's configuration information. This software extracts the International Mobile Equipment Identification, or IMEI, number from your phone and generates an unlock code. You just have to enter it in to unlock the phone after inserting a SIM card. This option suits even users with average computer knowledge.
Instructions
1. Power off the phone. Connect one end of the USB sync cable to the phone.
2. Install the unlock software sent by the company on the computer.
3. Connect the USB sync cable to the computer. Turn on the phone. The hardware wizard should appear, and report that it has detected new hardware.
4. Choose the 'Have Disk' option for installing drivers. Select the drivers provided by the unlock-code vendor. Press INSTALL. This process should complete shortly.
5. Select the client software and run it. Choose the "Generate Code" option. An unlock code should pop up within a few seconds.
6. Disconnect the phone. Remove the battery and SIM. Insert the new SIM. An "Invalid SIM Card" message should appear. Press "OK."
7. Use the numeric keypad of the phone to dial in the unlock code displayed on the computer screen. Your phone is now unlocked.
