Traditional frames are not the only way to display photos.
Whether you are decorating your home or for an event, it can be challenging to find unique ideas to display pictures. Often traditional frames do not create the statement or the atmosphere that you want. In these cases, you can find interesting, unique ways to display photos in almost any setting.
Twine and clothespins
For a fun way to display printed snapshots, cut a length of rough twine and secure each end to nails placed at the same level across a wall. Secure each photo to the twine using a clothespin for a rustic, crafty look; you can place photos at angles or hanging straight up and down. If your home decor is more contemporary, use thick wire instead of twine and secure photos with metal clips.
Ribbon hangers
For a photo display that also acts as a piece of decor, place your photos in a frameless glass or plastic clip display. You can leave the photo in the center of the glass, choose a photo that reaches the edges, or add a matte around your picture before putting it in the glass. For the hanging mechanism, choose lengths of brightly colored or patterned ribbon and attach to either side of the frame before tying the ends in a bow at the top. Hang the pictures from the ribbon on the wall; this is particularly attractive when hanging two or three photos in a row.
Digital display
If you have a folder of images that you'd like to display but do not have the space to print and hang each one, consider using a digital photo frame. To use, upload photos into the frame and select settings; the frame will rotate through your images, creating a dynamic display option. Digital frames come in a wide variety of sizes, from small desk frames to television-sized wall frames.
Coffee table display
For a unique coffee table that provides entertainment for guests and family, place your photos under a removable glass top. Arrange photos neatly, or create a collage effect, depending on the style and content of the photos. For added effect, place photos in mats or accent the display with ribbons or souvenirs that accompany the photos: plane tickets for a travel display, for example, or a signed program next to a photo of you at the theater.
Photo wall
If you have a collection of pictures that relate to each other, either in theme or visual appearance, consider displaying them in dramatic fashion on a photo wall. To keep the focus on the photos, choose simple, low-profile frames. Hang the photos on the same wall, either in a neat geometric pattern for a streamlined look or at staggered angles for a more dramatic look.
