A Nextel phone can function with a Boost Mobile SIM card
Using a Nextel phone on Boost Mobile lets you take advantage of an old Nextel device by putting it to use on the Boost Mobile Integrated Digital Enhanced Network (iDEN). The Boost mobile iDEN network is the same as the Nextel national iDEN network, so phones originally branded for Nextel can also be used on the Boost network. Boost Mobile offers prepaid cellular plans that charge by the minute in addition to prepaid unlimited plans that include push-to-talk walkie talkie services that operate interchangeably with those on Nextel.
Instructions
1. Turn the Nextel phone off by pressing and holding the power or "End" button until the screen goes dark.
2. Remove the back battery cover of the Nextel phone you want to activate or use on Boost Mobile.
3. Remove the battery from the Nextel phone.
4. Take note of the International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI) underneath the battery of the phone. Write it down, as the IMEI is necessary when activating your Boost Mobile phone.
5. Remove the old Nextel SIM card if it is currently in the phone. Push downward on the SIM card to push it out of the slot on the phone.
6. Insert the new Boost Mobile SIM card. The SIM card should be inserted with the metal contacts on the bottom of the card facing down. You can get an unactivated Boost Mobile SIM card by purchasing the Boost starter kit. Prices vary between retailers, but the start kit includes a $10 credit that can be applied toward prepaid minutes or a prepaid unlimited plan.
7. Reinsert the battery if you removed it in Step 2.
8. Snap the back cover in place to protect the back of the phone.
9. Press the Power or "End" button and hold it until the Nextel phone powers on.
10. Activate your SIM card on the Boost Mobile website. Type the SIM card ID, found on the SIM card packaging, and the International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI) number located underneath the battery on the phone. This information must be typed on the Boost Mobile "Activate" page. After entering the information, click "Start Activation Process."
11. Provide personal details, if you wish. As Boost Mobile is a prepaid service, you need not associate a credit card with your account, nor must you provide personal subscriber information. Select a phone number that will be used by your Nextel phone on the Boost network and click "Next."
12. Try to make an outgoing call on your Nextel phone with a Boost SIM card after activating the SIM. Remember, Boost starter kit SIM cards receive a complimentary $10 credit that can be used to make phone calls and use other Boost Mobile services. If the call goes through, the phone is properly activated.
