Replace The Fuse In An Amplifier

The morning after a great party in which you pumped up the jams all night is always sobering when you realize that you blew the fuse in your amplifier. If you don't know replace it with a new one, your sound system will be dead in the water. Here's how you can get your rig back up and rocking by replacing the blown fuse. Just don't tell your neighbors I was the one who told you do it!

Instructions

1. Unplug the amplifier from the wall outlet before attempting to replace the fuse.

2. Turn your amplifier around and look at the back side of the unit. Some models make it very easy to replace the fuse. Look for a circular component that has a + on it.

3. If your amplifier has this, just twist the circular component counterclockwise and it will pop out. Pull it out and the fuse will be sitting right inside.

4. Simply replace the fuse with a like one and twist the circular component back in place.

5. If you don't see the external fuse port on your amplifier, then you will need to remove the unit's cover. Remove the screws along the sides and the back of the unit, which are securing the top cover in place. Once they are all removed, the cover should come off easily by lifting the backside up and pulling it out.

6. Look in the vicinity where the electrical cord enters the amplifier and you should see the glass tube fuse. Carefully pry it out of its clamps.

7. You should be able to tell by looking at the fuse whether or not it's blown. If you cannot, use a digital multimeter to test for continuity (see Resources below).

8. Replace a like fuse in the fuse clamp. replace the cover and drive all of the screws back into place.

9. Plug your amplifier back in and turn it on. You should be back up and running and ready for your next party!
