A store bought paper lantern provides an oval shaped alternative to the LED tower.
Unique lighting can make an event more special. Strings of lights or candles have been the traditional method for creating a festive or unique ambiance, but LED lights are now a wonderful alternative to use as well. The LED glowing tower is a good choice for either an outdoor or indoor setting and is similar to a luminary in that it creates a soft glow, whether you place in the center of a dining table, in a corner of a room to lighten up a space, or on a low table in a separate seating area outdoors.
Instructions
1. Choose an LED light designed for either reading or for lighting in small spaces, such as closets. Choose lights with 120 volts and anywhere from 26 to 60 lumens. The LED packaging will suggest possible uses and will give you amounts of voltage and lumens.
2. Ensure that the LED light sits solidly on a flat surface. If it does not, place the light in a bowl of similar size and fill with sand or pebbles to set the LED light snugly into.
3. Cut or tear the paper to the desired height. Tearing creates soft edges at the top of the tower that match the soft glow of the tower itself. Cutting the top edge with a zigzag or scalloped pattern creates a more informal mood. The height of the tower can be adjusted to be shorter for a dining table, taller for a floor tower to light a corner of a room or somewhere in between for lighting in any location, such as a low table at an outdoor seating area.
4. Measure the circumference of the LED light or container and cut the paper 1 inch wider than that measurement. Tearing the paper is also an option for this side seam.
5. Wrap the paper to form a cylindrical tower. Tape along the side edge.
6. Place the LED light in the desired location, such as a dining table or corner of a room, turn it on and drop the paper tower over the LED light so that the tower sits directly on the table or floor.
