Scan & Fax With An Android Phone

Android-based smartphones are equipped with cameras that can use a combination of applications to fax documents directly from the phone. Several scanning and OCR applications take a picture of your document and ready it for faxing or emailing. The Android Marketplace also has applications to send faxes over the Internet to a person's fax machine.

Instructions

1. Open Android Market on your phone. If you don't have a Market shortcut on your home screen, tap "Applications" and "Market" to launch it.

2. Search for a scanning application, such as DocScanner, Scan to PDF or Droid Scan Pro. Each application uses the camera on the phone to create an image of your document, suitable for sending to an application like Google Documents or sending as a fax. Install the application by tapping "Install" and "OK."

3. Search for a faxing application, such as Mobile Fax or ScanR. Some faxing applications include a scanning camera feature, so you may not even need to download a separate scanning app on your Android phone. Tap "Install" and "Yes" when selecting an application from the Market.

4. Open the scanning application you installed. Point your phone's camera at the document you're scanning. Follow the on-screen instructions of the application to create the scanned image. Open your fax application or go to the fax section in your all-in-one application. Enter the fax number to which you wish to send the document. The application faxes the image over to the indicated fax machine.
