Sunpak 622 Flash Specs

The 622 has a rotating head for bouncing light.

The Sunpak 622 is an external flash unit meant for use with an SLR camera. A flash unit, if used correctly, can make your subject "pop" from the background, and often brings a professional look to images. Before connecting the flash, check your camera manual to see if it is compatible. Connecting incompatible devices can damage both the camera and flash unit.

Core Features

The Sunpak 622 flash is capable of producing flashes that last between 1/400 and 1/30,000 of a second, and is effective up to 100 feet. Depending on its power source, its recycling time ranges between 1/4 of a second at minimum power and 20 seconds at maximum power. It can be powered by 4 C-sized batteries or by Sunpak's A26 AC adapter.

Additional Features

The flash can be fitted with several types of flash heads, including wide, zoom, ring and infrared. The standard head has an illumination angle of 60 degrees horizontally and 45 degrees vertically. This range can be increased to 80 degrees in both directions by using other heads. The head can also be rotated 300 degrees horizontally and 90 degrees vertically for bounce shots. The flash weighs 33 ounces without batteries.

Pricing and Availability

As of October 2010, this flash unit can be purchased new for $350 or used for $200. Due to its age and product type, you will most likely be able to find it at online photography-specialized stores. Large in-store electronics retailers generally only carry newer models or more-popular brands.
