Install Mini Coax Cable

A mini coax cable is similar in all respects to a standard coax cable except for its size and the connectors at each end. You can install mini coax cables once you have installed a mini coax connector to each end of the mini coax cable that you are going to use. You will need a few supplies from a hardware store as well as a few tools, some of which are specialized and may need to be purchased. The procedure is straightforward and does not require any previous experience in working with coax cables.

Instructions

1. Measure the length of mini coax cable that will be needed for the devices you want to connect. Cut the length off the mini coax cable spool with the blade of a utility knife.

2. Place one end of the cut length of mini coax cable into the cable stripper. Hold the mini coax cable steady with one hand while you press down on the cable stripper's handles with the other hand. Rotate the cable stripper clockwise 360 degrees.

3. Remove the cable stripper from the end of the mini coax cable. Pull the cut insulation off the end of the cable with your fingers. Dispose of the cut piece of insulation in the trash.

4. Push the exposed mesh wiring away from the cut end and towards the insulation that is still on the mini coax cable. Smooth the mesh wiring against the insulation with your fingers.

5. Place the mini coax connector metal plug on the cut end of the cable. Push the connector over the mesh wiring and up against the insulation. Repeat this with the mini coax connector plastic plug so that the metal plug is now covered.

6. Place the end of the cut length of mini coax cable into the coax crimping compression tool. Hold the mini coax cable steady with one hand while you press down on the handles of the coax crimping compression tool with the other hand.

7. Remove the tool from the cable. Repeat the procedure to install a mini coax connector to the other end of the mini coax cable. The mini coax cable can now be connected to the devices that you want to use it with.
