Use A Wireless Internet Webcam

Using a wireless webcam is simple and a lot of fun.

The webcam is one of the most basic computer gadgets. This device has gone from being a very costly item with complex functions to today’s economical and handy wireless webcam. Wireless webcams are available in every electronics store with features that adapt to your needs. Fortunately, if you want to use a wireless Internet webcam, you don’t need to be a computer geek. You'll be able to set up the wireless webcam quickly to chat with friends and family on the Internet.

Instructions

1. Plug the wireless webcam’s USB cable or card into your computer's USB port and turn the computer on. The computer’s operating system will acknowledge the new device, and a pop-up message will ask you if you want to install the driver. Webcams come with an installation disc. Insert the disc in the drive and click on "Yes" or "Install." Wait until the camera is fully installed.

2. Go to your wireless webcam’s "settings" menu when the installation has finalized. Most people save the icon on their desktop, while others save it where the software is installed by default. Access your webcam and adjust it to your liking. You can customize your camera’s resolution, speaker and microphone. Because webcams differ depending on the brand, the procedure to adjust your settings may vary, but generally access is always through the "Settings" menu. You can take pictures and record videos and audio with your wireless webcam. You can also move away from your computer with it. How far away you can go from your computer will ultimately depend on your webcam’s wireless strength.

3. Speak into the built-in microphone or use an external headphone set to see if the microphone is working appropriately. This is so you can talk with others when using your wireless webcam. Click on your webcam's "Settings" menu and under the "Sound" section run a "Sound test."

4. Choose any software application that lets you make a voice call over the Internet, such as Skype, Windows Live or ICQ, and create an account. Simply go to the provider's website and install the software. Yahoo! Messenger is one of the most widely used software. Go to Yahoo.com, and on the left of the screen you will find the "Messenger" link. It’s the one with a "smile" icon. Click on it, then click "Download Now" and follow the downloading instructions.

5. Invite your friends to chat with you. Open the chat software you are using and click on the "Menu" or "Contacts" section on the top toolbar of the software window. Click on the "Add a contact" or "Add" option and in the blank box type the person’s email or user ID. Click on "Add" or "Save" to finish adding the new contact. The other person has to accept your invitation before you can start chatting. Once your invitation is accepted, you will find the person’s name listed under you contacts. Right-click on the desired contact and then choose the "Video call" or "Video chat" button. For other voice over IP software services like Skype or Window’s Live, the process is similar.
