The Samsung SGH-A727 is an AT&T branded phone. AT&T uses SIM cards to identify its phones and connect them to its mobile network. Most mobile companies that use SIM cards place a SIM subsidy lock on their branded phones to keep those phones from using other companies' SIM cards. Even after you have completed your service contract with AT&T, this lock can prevent you from using your phone with another company. To remove the lock, you have to enter the SIM unlock code into your A727.
Instructions
1. Press the power button until your Samsung SGH-A727 powers off.
2. Place your thumb on the horizontal lines on the back of the A727 and slide the battery cover off of the phone. Lift the battery out of the compartment.
3. Use your fingers or a pair of tweezers to slide the AT&T SIM card out of the slot. Slide another company's SIM card into the slot, with the gold contacts facing down and the cutaway corner facing into the slot.
4. Put the battery and the battery cover back into place. Turn the A727 back on.
5. Note the SIM card error display when the phone powers on. Press the "OK" button. Enter the SIM unlock code into the field provided. Press the "OK" button again.
