If you have a Windows Mobile smartphone, you may have wanted to update its operating system to Windows Mobile 6.1 to gain extra features or functionality or just to try out the new OS. Fortunately, you can make this upgrade process, provided that your cellphone manufacturer has produced the files that are necessary to make the upgrade. As long as this has been done, then you can upgrade your phone to use the new Windows Mobile 6.1 operating system.
Instructions
1. Open a browser and navigate to the website of the manufacturer of your cellphone. Look in the downloads section of the website and see if they have released a Windows Mobile 6.1 upgrade for your smartphone. If so, this upgrade is in the form of a downloadable EXE file, which you should download and save to your desktop.
2. Attach your phone to your computer with the USB cable and back up any information on the phone that you want to save, such as custom ringtones, pictures or videos that you have saved to the phone's memory. You should also remove any memory chips that are inserted into the phone.
3. Read the information included with the upgrade and follow any instructions. Double-click on the EXE file. Wait for the file to be loaded onto your phone, then press the confirmation button on your phone to verify that you want to upgrade the software to Windows Mobile 6.1.
4. Wait for the installation process to finish. During this process, the phone resets several times. Do not unplug the phone from your computer or turn it off. If you do, you risk permanently damaging your phone. Once the installation process is finished, you receive notification, and you can then use the new operating system. If you want to restore your information, load it back onto your phone using the transfer system through which you originally backed it up.
