While the best way to receive HD programming is via cable or satellite service, over-the-air HD programming is available from local television stations. Setup of the antenna itself is the hardest part, especially if an exterior antenna is selected. Otherwise, it is as easy as connecting the cable to your television and turning it on.
Instructions
1. Choose an adequate location if selecting an exterior antenna. (Otherwise, go to Step 2.) This should be somewhere where it is free from obstructions and at the highest point possible. The higher the antenna, the better the antenna will perform. Skip to Step 3.
2. Select a spot for your interior antenna. This should be free of obstructions nearby if it is directional, so it can be moved to find the best spot for reception. Skip to Step 4.
3. Install the antenna. If you do not feel comfortable doing this yourself, have a professional do this for you. Run the feed lines to your televisions location. Be sure to keep this feed line as short as possible to minimize feed loss problems. HDTV is very sensitive to issues like this.
4. Connect the cable to your television once the antenna placement and installation is complete. Or if you are using a antenna rotator, connect the cable from the rotator unit to the television. Turn the television on.
5. Tune to a local station. HDTV does not have "snow," so either the picture will appear or it will not. If it does not, try rotating the antenna to face the direction of the origin of the signal. If it receives enough signal, a picture will appear.
6. Troubleshoot if there are issues. If antenna rotation does not solve reception issues of local stations, check all connections.
