A Tivo is a digital video recorder (DVR) that you program to record television and movies directly from an over-the-air antenna or cable or satellite receiver. A Tivo offers better picture quality than a VHS recorder and enables you to pause and rewind live television as well as fast-forward through recorded television. Another option Tivo offers is transferring recorded programs to a computer.
Instructions
1. Connect your Tivo wireless adapter to your Tivo. There is a USB port located on the back of the Tivo box specifically for these types of attachments.
2. Download Tivo desktop software. The basic software is free, but you can purchase an upgrade that will convert your Tivo downloads to other file types if you want to watch your Tivo recorded shows on your iPhone or other similar devices.
3. Connect your Tivo to your home network. Open Tivo central, scroll down to "messages and settings" and press select. Scroll down to "settings" and then "phone & network." Select "add a network" or "change network settings" (depending how you currently have your Tivo configured). Follow the on-screen prompts to add your Tivo to your home network.
4. Click on "Tivo Desktop" (on your computer) once the software has downloaded. The icon for Tivo desktop is the little Tivo guy. Depending on your security settings, you may need to give additional permission for your computer to open Tivo desktop.
5. Click on the "pick recordings to transfer" button. Click on the name of the program you would like to transfer and then click on "transfer." Your program will begin to download on to your computer immediately.
