Digitizing your slide
collection is easy with the right equipment.
In their day, 35mm slides were one of the premier media for photograph. Offering a wide dynamic range and impressive color reproduction, slides were used for archival work as well as amateur and snapshot photography. Because of their longevity and ease of safe storage, many of these slides still exist today. Digitizing your slide library is a common, simple process with the right hardware and software.
Instructions
1. Ensure your scanner can scan slides. To do so, it will need a backlight and will be capable of scanning photographic negatives. All scanners capable of scanning negatives can scan slides.
2. Place the slides in the carrier that came with the scanner. Place the emulsion side down toward the scanning bed.
3. Put the carrier on the scanner, ensuring that the entire area of each slide can be seen by the scanner.
4. Open the scanning software that came bundled with your scanner.
5. Select "Positive" from the drop-down menu and select at least 300 dpi. Also select the final size you want for the scans of the slides, whether they are color or black and white, and where you want to save the scans to.
6. Click the button labeled "Scan" to scan your slides.
