SiriusXM's satellite radios provide users with the option of setting up a hard-wired connection for satellite radio reception, or using the satellite receiver's internal FM modulator to pick up the service's broadcasts. Going the route of the FM can make for a brief installation period and can allow users to move the unit to another location with ease. But because the Sirius FM modulator must sync with your radio's FM frequencies, the setup is more prone to interference than a hard-wired installation. However, there are some things you can do to optimize your Sirius receiver's FM modulator should problems arise.
Instructions
1. Adjust the volume on your vehicle's radio if your Sirius audio output is too low or too loud and harsh. Your Sirius receiver's audio level is meant for fine tuning your overall volume, but its output should be generally handled by your vehicle's radio. Select the "Audio Level" option from your Sirius radio's menu, and then set its volume to roughly 50 percent.
2. Recheck the connections on your Sirius system's antenna. Ensure that the antenna's barrel connector is securely plugged into the "ANT" port on your radio. Also, check the connection at the base of the antenna to ensure that no fraying has occurred -- gently lift the antenna's rubber shield to inspect the wire beneath.
3. Ensure that your Sirius FM modulator is tuned to the best frequency for your location. Visit the Sirius FM Channel Finder application (see Resources).
4. Type your ZIP code into the "Enter ZIP code" field on the page, and then click on the "Find My Best Frequency" button. Write down all of the frequencies that are displayed in the application's list of results.
5. Press the "Menu" button on your Sirius receiver, and the select the "FM Presets" option from the radio's menu. Select an empty presets slot, and then use the arrow buttons on your Sirius remote to select one of the frequencies you found on the FM Channel Finder.
6. Set your automobile's radio, or Sirius boombox, frequency to match the one that you programmed into your Sirius receiver.
