Old LP record albums can be used as '50s theme party centerpieces.
Throwing a '50s theme party can be successfully accomplished on a limited budget by using household items and buying decorations at thrift and discount party supply stores. Whimsical homemade centerpieces for the occasion are easy to make.
Theme Balloons
Pick out some large Mylar balloons shaped like musical notes and musical instruments like guitars and drums. If a balloon jukebox is available, include that in the selection. Fill some of the balloons with helium. Stack piles of old record albums in the center of the table and attach the balloons to them.
Vinyl Record Bowls and Stands
Turn old LPs into serving bowls and centerpiece stands for candles and pictures. Preheat an oven to 200 degrees Fahrenheit. Place a record on top of an inverted heatproof bowl that is large enough for the LP to drape down the sides when it melts. Bake the records for five to eight minutes until they have melted down the sides of the bowls. Carefully remove them from the oven and take the records off the bowls.
Other Centerpiece Ideas
Turn an oversize glass or clear plastic vase into a giant '50s-style ice cream sundae using inexpensive craft store items. Use huge cotton balls for ice cream, shredded brown streamers for chocolate topping, bark chips for nuts and add fake cherries on top.
