Service
Rather than committing to a subscription with TracFone, you buy a set number of minutes good for a period of time. When you run out of minutes, you simply buy more to continue service.
Cost
As of July 2009, service starts at $19.99 for 60 minutes, which is good for three months. Discounts and specials are common on on the TracFone website.
Setup
You can buy the phone and card at many retailers, such as Target or Walmart, or online. Entering the card code activates service.
Feature
Calls to many foreign countries such as the UK, Mexico and Japan do not incur extra charges on TracFone. They cost the same as any local call.
