The 3G 2.2.1 firmware unlocks your iPhone or iPod. It gives you the ability to use applications outside of the Apple Store. To unlock your iPhone or iPod, you need to first download the firmware to your computer. From there, you need to know transfer the software to your iPhone or iPod so you can unlock it. You will find that the unlocking process is quite simple. The firmware does most of the work for you.
Instructions
1. Download the 3G 2.2.1 firmware. (See Resources.) Click the "Save" button. Save the file to your desktop for easy access.
2. Double-click the file's icon. Follow the installation wizard to install the software. Reboot your computer for the changes to take effect.
3. Attach the USB cable to your iPhone. Plug the other end into your computer's available USB port.
4. Wait for iTunes to automatically launch and detect your iPhone. Click the "X" in the right hand corner to close the application.
5. Click "Start" and "All Programs." Select the firmware's name in the list. Alternatively, you can double-click the firmware's icon on your desktop. Follow the instructions to unlock your phone. The process only takes a few minutes.
