The iPhone, made by Apple, is a smartphone with the potential for thousands of uses. Like other smartphones, it is a combination of cellular phone, Web browser and personal organizer. Unlike some models of BlackBerry, for example, the iPhone uses a touch screen; the user navigates his way through the phone's functions by sliding his finger across the screen and tapping icons. As of early 2011, the newest version is the iPhone 4.
Specifications
The iPhone 4 is an updated, improved version of previous iPhone models. The phone is 4.5 inches tall by 2.31 inches wide by 0.37 inches deep. It weighs 4.8 oz. and its screen is 3.5 inches measured diagonally. The iPhone has a 16 or 32 GB memory capacity. The iPhone includes 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi connectivity and Bluetooth 2.1
Design
The iPhone 4 was designed to be the most durable, rugged iPhone available. Its screen is made of aluminosilicate glass, which is far more durable than plastic. The result is a more scratch-resistant, breakage-resistant phone. A frame around the outside of the phone is made of stainless steel, giving the phone a metallic look while helping to make it strong, yet thin. The phone's screen measures 960-by-640 pixels with a resolution of 326 pixels per inch. As such, it's the highest-resolution smartphone screen on the market.
Apps
An important feature on the iPhone is the link to the App Store, which gives users hundreds of thousands of applications to download with a tap on a button. Some apps are free, and apps are available for virtually every area of interest. The App Store features apps for business, entertainment, sports, hobbies and travel, among other topics.
