Open An Hp 48g

The HP 48G is a graphing calculator designed for scientists, students and engineers. The 48G contains more than 180 built-in graphing equations to help with most common mathematical functions. The graphing menu allows to display up to sixteen graphs simultaneously. If you need to open up the calculator for maintenance or repair, you can do so using a jeweler's or Phillips screwdriver.


Instructions


1. Remove the battery compartment cover on the back of the 48G. Flip the calculator with the buttons faced down. Pull off the battery compartment cover with the small latch at the cover's top. Pull out each of the batteries inside the compartment. Flip the calculator face-up again.


2. Insert a screwdriver into the side of the 48G. A small gap exists between the keypad cover plate and the calculator body. Wedge the screwdriver into this gap and slowly pry open the cover plate.


3. Unscrew the back cover of the HP 48G. Place the calculator on a flat surface with the keypad facing down. Remove the small screws holding the back cover with your screwdriver. Slowly pull the back cover off the calculator to prevent electrical damage. You can now access all internal parts of the 48G.

Make Toy Cameras Shoot Like A Holga

The Holga is a plastic film-shooting camera that harkens back to the days before digital became more popular than film. You can make your film-based toy camera shoot like a Holga by using the same photographic techniques when taking a picture with film. A tripod or any photographic equipment is not needed to make your toy camera shoot like a Holga.


Instructions


1. Go into a room that you can darken completely such as a bathroom or a room in the basement. Close the door and place a towel against the bottom edge to block light from outside. Push on the latch on the back of the toy camera. Pull the back section off the front section.


2. Pull the leader out of the 35mm film cartridge a few inches. Place the back section of the toy camera face up on the bathroom counter. Remove the film spool from the depression on the inside left side of the back section.


3. Place the 35mm film cartridge in the depression. Insert the end of the leader into the slit in the center of the film spool. Wind the film around the spool in a counterclockwise motion for a complete revolution.


4. Place the front section on a tabletop or counter with the lens facing up.


5. Turn the room light off. Pull the film out of the 35mm cartridge as you drag the spool over to the depression on the right side of the back section. Place the spool into the depression. Grip the front section and place it onto the back section.


6. Turn on the light once you have pushed the latch back down. Take the towel away from the bottom of the door. Open the door.


7. Go outside in your backyard. Stand so that the sun is behind you; if you see your shadow in front of you in the viewfinder, slightly angle your position to cast the shadow out of the picture.


8. Bring the toy camera's viewfinder up to your eye. Look through the viewfinder at a scene that you would like to take a picture of -- for example, a tree arching into the sky. Compose the shot so that there aren't any telephone or electric or cable wires running through the back of the tree.


9. Bring the camera down from your eye. Wind the shutter knob next to the shutter button on the toy camera until it clicks and stops. Bring the camera back up to your eye and compose the picture again. Press the shutter button on the top of the toy camera when you want to take the picture. Continue to take pictures in your backyard and at any other location that you want -- for example, a park or at a family gathering.


10. Return to a dark room when all of the film has been shot. Place a towel against the bottom of the door. Release the latch on the back of the camera. Turn the light off. Separate the two sections of the camera. Grip the 35mm cartridge in the back section and pull it out. Hold the cartridge in one hand and rotate the tab at the bottom counterclockwise with the fingers of the other hand.


11. Keep rotating the tab until the film breaks free of the spool and enters the cartridge -- you will feel a lack of tension happen when this occurs.


12. Turn the light on and take the towel away from the door. Put the toy camera back together and place it away for use at a later time. Take the film to a camera store or to a drugstore to have the film developed and pictures made.

Photograph At Night

Taking pictures in low-light conditions requires attention to light sources and an understanding of how light affects film. The amateur with some camera experience can take pictures at night by following a few guidelines.


Instructions


1. Use a tripod with slow film (under ISO 100) for landscapes and architecture and fast film (ISO 400 or above) for moving subjects. Fast film has a much more noticeable grain than slow film, but the long exposure times required for slow films preclude using it for moving subjects.


2. Adjust the film speed to a higher film speed and multiply the exposure time accordingly if no meter reading is possible.


3. Try taking a light meter reading from a piece of white card and multiplying the suggested settings by 6 to get an approximate reading if you're using moonlight to light your subject.


4. Assume that moonlight illuminates at 1/5000th the rate of sunlight so that a photo taken at a shutter speed of 1/1000 in sunlight would require 5 seconds in moonlight.


5. Underexpose your film by increasing the film speed rating on your camera (for example, if the speed of your film is ISO 400, change the film speed setting on your camera to ISO 800) to boost exposure without resorting to flash. Use the higher film speed as a gauge when setting the aperture and shutter speed.

Scan 35mm Slides Into Adobe PhotoShop


Adobe Photoshop CS4 offers powerful image enhancement tools to help you digitize your library of photographs and slides. Using Photoshop's integrated tools to control your scanner, you can scan slides directly into Photoshop without need of any additional software. You will need a special slide adapter for your scanner, however. Together with a 35mm slide scanner, Photoshop can help you improve your final image scans and bring new life to old 35mm slides.


Instructions


1. Select "File" then "Import" from the main menu.


2. Select "TWAIN Acquire" or "WIA Support" (depending on your scanner and computer platform) from the Import menu. From the dialogue box, click the "Browse" button to select the location where you want to store the scanned slides. Under "Options" keep the box checked for "Open Acquired Image(s) in Photoshop" and uncheck the "Create Unique Subfolder Using Date Today" unless you want subfolders organized around scan dates. Press the "Start" button to continue.


3. Select your scanner device from the Select Device dialogue box and click on "OK."


4. Configure your scanner using the control settings provided. If you are scanning slide negatives, indicate "negative" for the scan type. Select a resolution of at least 300 dots per inch (dpi) due to the size of 35mm slides.


5. Depending on your scanner controls, you may be able to preview your scan to confirm your settings. If the WIA or TWAIN device controls allow, preview your settings. Otherwise, click on the "Scan" button to import the image into Photoshop.


6. Use Photoshop's image adjustment tools to enhance the contrast, color and brightness of your slide. Select "Image" then "Auto Contrast" from the main menu. If the results are not what you had hoped for, undo the selection by selecting "Edit" and "Undo" from the menu.


7. Repeat the previous step for "Auto Tone" and "Auto Color" to improve image quality as needed.


8. Remove remaining imperfections in the original slide scan by selecting "Filter" then "Noise" then "Dust & Scratches" from the menu. If needed, adjust the radius of the particle size you wish removed using the Radius slide control in the Dust & Scratches dialogue box, then click the "OK" button.


9. Save the scanned slide by selecting "File" then "Save" from the main menu.

Replace A Speaker In A Speaker Cabinet

Every speaker cabinet eventually blows a speaker. Whether it stays in a practice room or gets hauled from gig to gig, something will weaken and given out. Not only will the speaker sound bad, but it changes the overall impedance of the speaker cabinet. That can damage the amplifier driving it. Luckily, a speaker cabinet is designed to allow for quick and easy speaker replacements. Read on to learn replace a speaker in a speaker cabinet.


Instructions


1. Place the speaker cabinet on its back if possible and remove the speaker grille. Some grilles pop into place but most are secured with screws that will be visible from the side or front on the cabinet.


2. Unscrew the first screw from the bad speaker, and then remove the screw opposite it. Remove all screws in opposite pairs.


3. Lift out the speaker carefully because it is still connected to the other speaker by wires. Some speakers will be attached by two wires, and others by four, but there should never be only one wire. If this is the case the speaker may not be blown, only disconnected.


4. Pull the wires from the speaker tabs by the plastic connector. Use pliers if necessary but do not pull on the wire itself. If tabs are not color-coded (the standard code is red equals positive and black equals negative), label them with a marker. Tape the wires down so they do not fall inside the cabinet.


5. Confirm that the speaker that has been removed is bad, if desired, by measuring the resistance between the positive and negative connection tabs. If the meter reads less than an ohm or more than twice the impedance rating, it is bad; otherwise, it might not be bad. Gently press the center of the speaker cone. If it makes a scratchy sound or does not spring back into place, it is bad.


6. Push the wire connectors onto the proper tabs, using pliers if needed. Gently place the speaker into the mounting hole and replace the screws in opposing pairs. Do not tighten.


7. Tighten screws only after all have been placed. Replace the grille and return speaker cabinet to upright position.

How Do Graphic Equalizers Work

A graphic equalizer is a way to control the dynamics of a sound wave. Most sounds aren't just simple tones consisting of a single frequency. Instead, they have many different frequencies playing at the same time. A graphic equalizer allows the listener to selectively adjust certain frequencies without changing the values of others. It can be used to eliminate hiss from a recording, to make a recording sound fuller or warmer, to crank the bass up, and for many other purposes.


Each slider in a graphic equalizer has a filter which only lets certain sounds pass through. The bass and treble sliders only pass frequencies below and above a certain level, respectively. The sliders in the middle all have a range, passing signals through between a certain lower limit and a certain upper one. The sliders are all arranged in a row on the control panel, with the bass ones being all the way at the left and the treble, all the way at the right.


Old style, analog graphic equalizers work by phase shifting the signal a certain amount. Phase shifting means delaying the signal slightly so that it is out of phase with the original signal. When signals are completely out of phase, they cancel each other out, resulting in no sound being produced. When signals are only partly out of phase, they cancel each other out partially. By changing how much of the signal is canceled out, the graphic equalizer changes the volume of that signal.


Modern, digital graphic equalizers work differently. They create a digital image of the signal and change the amplitude of the signal digitally. This produces a cleaner signal with less distortion than the old style of graphic equalizer.

Instructions


1. Make sure the power to your printing dock is on before placing the camera in the docking station, pushing gently until the port on the bottom clicks into the docking port. If the camera does not snap in easily, check to make sure the camera’s preview window is facing the front of the printing dock. Resist trying to force the camera onto the dock.


2. Press the forward or backward arrows on the printing dock to choose which photographs to print. After choosing a shot, you can select how many copies you want of that particular photo. When you’re ready to print, press “OK” and the printer will begin printing your selections. Press the "Delete" button to permanently erase photos you don't want.


3. Choose an alternate method of selecting which photos to print by turning on your camera and pressing the “Review” button. When you’re in Review mode, press the “Menu” button and select the “Share” option. In this mode, you can perform the same functions of selecting photographs and print numbers before placing your camera on the docking station. For some people, this option is easier to see clearly.


4. Crop your shots on the docking station before printing. You can zoom in and position the frame exactly where you want it, capturing only the best part of your photograph. The Kodak Easy Share printer will only print the area within the cropped borders.


5. Use the printer as a battery refresher for your camera. If your rechargeable battery isn’t holding a charge as long as it used to, attach it to the docking station of the printer. Press the “Up” button and the “Cancel” button simultaneously to activate the battery refresher. Leave your camera in the dock for at least eight hours.

A Memory Stick is a small storage device that uses flash memory. This technology was originally developed by Sony to be used with digital cameras and other portable electronic devices. Memory Sticks are now used with other Sony products like the PlayStation Portable (PSP). You can add or remove files from your Memory Stick by connecting it to your computer. Once you've connected the Memory Stick to your computer, you can use the Memory Stick like any other USB drive or storage device.


Instructions


1. Insert the Memory Stick into the Memory Stick reader. Some computers are equipped with a media card slot into which you can plug the Memory Stick directly. If your computer has a media card slot, you can skip this step.


2. Connect the Memory Stick reader to your computer's USB port.


3. Open the Memory Stick on your computer by clicking "Start" and then "Computer." Double-click the Memory Stick under "Devices with removable storage." This opens a new window displaying the contents of your Memory Stick.


4. Navigate to the folder that contains your photos. You may have a "Pictures" folder designated specifically for picture files. Open that folder.


5. Drag photos from the original location into the Memory Stick window that you opened in step 3. The photos are transferred from your hard drive onto your memory stick.


6. Eject the Memory Stick before removing the Memory Stick reader from your computer. Right-click the Memory Stick under "Devices with removable storage" and select "Eject."

Instructions


Using the Flash


1. Attach the flash to the hot shoe on top of the camera, and turn the flash on with the on button on the back of the flash unit.


2. Press the "Mode" button on the back of the camera and turn the control dial to "AutoExtFlash." This sets the flash to function automatically by detecting whether the light is sufficient. Press the small black automatic button on the front of the flash unit if you are using a Canon film camera without an electronic interface for this setting. Press the red "Pilot" button to test the flash.


3. To use the flash manually, press the flash button on your camera body.


4. To change the camera settings for when the flash will automatically function, press the "C.Fn" button on the back of the camera and turn the control dial to "External Metering: Manual." Use the control dial to set the ISO and aperture on the flash to the desired setting, so the flash will go off at those settings.


5. To adjust the flash's zoom, which sets the focus of the flash in reference to its distance from the camera, press the "Zoom" button on the back of the flash and adjust the distance with the control dial.

Use A Micro Sd Card Adapter

SD cards permit the easy transfer of files between devices.


You will sometimes find a micro SD card adapter included with the purchase of a micro SD card, but you can also purchase an adapter separately. The micro SD card adapter looks like a regular-sized SD card with a slot in it for the micro SD card. Any SD card reader or SD media port on a computer can accommodate the adapter just like a normal-sized SD card. A variety of small electronic devices--such as cell phones, GPS devices and games--use micro SD cards. When placed inside an SD card adapter, they allow you to transfer data between your device and a computer.


Instructions


1. Remove the micro SD card from your device.


2. Insert the micro SD card into the adapter. Hold the adapter face up and insert the micro SD card into the slot face up with the gold pins going in first.


3. Insert the adapter card into the media slot on your computer. The media slot should say "SD/MMC" next to it. If your computer does not have a media port, you must use a USB SD card reader.


4. Open the SD card drive on your computer. It should show up as a "removable" drive which you can open and view the files. Then you can copy and paste the files to your hard drive. You can also take media files from your hard drive and put them in the folders on the card.

Format A Scandisk Sd Card

SanDisk Secure Digital (SD) cards are primarily used for storing media files such as MP3s, photos or short video clips. Portable devices such as digital cameras or MP3 players use SD cards because of their diminutive size. Formatting an SD card is useful for deleting unwanted files that reside on that card. Instructions


1. Insert your SD card into your computer's SD card reader. If you do not have a built-in SD card reader, connect your reader to your computer via USB.


2. Click the "Start" menu, and click "Computer."


3. Right-click the drive that represents your SD card.


4. Select "Format..." from the menu. Choose the appropriate file system from the drop-down menu. Enter a name for your SD card in the "Volume Label" field.


5. Click "Start" at the bottom of the Format window to begin the process. You will be alerted when your card has been formatted.

Black and white pictures project emotion through the use of composition and lighting without the aid of color. But color is of great significance to a picture. A splash of color can bring focus to a picture that may seem chaotic, or even magnify a single individual within the picture. Color within a picture can even express visually concepts such as love and hope. It can be a powerful addition to any photography. Fortunately, a free program like Picasa allows even a low-budget photographer to give his work a splash of color.


Instructions


Adding Color to Black and White Photography


1. Open Picasa. Look for the black and white picture that you want to add color to.


2. Press the "Import" for the pictures that aren't already in Picasa. Click on the "Import From" drop-down menu. Select the picture you want to use, and click on the "Import To" drop-down menu. Click the "Folder Title" drop-down menu to either create a folder to store this picture in, or drop it into an existing folder. Press the "Import Selected" button.


3. Double-click on the picture you want to use, and it will pop up within its own editing frame. The "Basic Fixes" tab should be visible on the left side of this frame.


4. Click on the "I'm Feeling Lucky" graphic within the "Basic Fixes" tab for a quick contrast and color photo fix.


5. Click on the "Effects" tab to access the color effects. Click on "Tint" to have a solid color over the black and white picture. Click on "Pick Color," and select a skin tone appropriate for this person from the top color hexagons. Press "Apply."


6. Click on "Focal B&W." Move the "Size" slider to correspond to the size of the face of the person. Use the yellow target icon within the picture to move this circle over the subject's face. Leave the "Sharpness" slider towards the far left, and press "Apply."


7. Click on "Graduated Tint." Click on "Pick Color," and select an purple color from the color picker. Move the "Feather" to the right past the halfway marker. Move the "Shade" to the left, past the halfway marker. Take the yellow target icon and drag the middle of your photo.


8. Go to "File" > "Save As." Select your desktop, and name this picture "Color_Black_White."


9. Create a poster out of this image by going to "Create" > " Poster." Press "OK" and assemble your poster once it prints out.

Reuse Desiccant Packs

Reusing desiccant packets around the home controls moisture.


Humidity is the amount of water vapor in the air. Although a little humidity may be good for your health and skin, it's not always beneficial for other things. When you purchase shoes, leather goods, toys and medicine, these items are often packaged with small packets of silica beads, called desiccants, which absorb and control moisture. Desiccant packets are typically thrown away, but they can be saved for use in other areas of the home.


Instructions


1. Place desiccant packets inside bags where you store blankets, clothing, linens or pillows. Cloth is particularly susceptible to moisture and can easily mildew, ruining the material. Depending on the size of the bag, two to three packets should suffice.


2. Pack any electronics in resealable, plastic bags when you travel, and throw a couple of desiccant packets into the bags. Cameras, phones, PDAs and video equipment are highly sensitive to moisture and can malfunction if moisture collects inside the equipment.


3. Add packets to a closet or cupboard where you store your leather shoes, belts and purses. Not only will the packets attract moisture, they will extend the life of your expensive things.


4. Open 20 to 30 packets and pour the beads into a tall glass. Dry fresh flowers by inserting the stems into the silica beads, and allow the flowers to sit in the silica for several days.The flowers will dry more quickly, and the silica protects the color vibrancy and the integrity of the petals and leaves.


5. Place intact desiccant packets inside safes where you store important documents, guns and ammunition. Airtight cases like safes trap air inside, including humid air, so desiccants protect your valuables.


6. Store desiccant packets among the things shelved in your garage. The packets are certainly ideal for wicking moisture away from things, but they also help control odors that are worsened by higher humidity levels.


7. Throw a couple of packets into a craft box, tackle box or tool box to prevent rusting of metal or the breakdown of paper or fiber materials.


8. Slip several desiccant packets inside of an envelope and add the envelope to the box or drawer where you store photographs. Think of the desiccant as an archival aid, and make sure the envelope is sealed.


9. Store several packets in the boxes where you keep your Christmas ornaments and decorations. Handcrafted, paper or bread-dough ornaments and decorations are more susceptible to trapped moisture, and the packets will protect these irreplaceable things.

Wire A Security Camera

Wiring a security camera does not require a professional; if you are handy with some basic tools, you can learn wire a security camera. A security camera uses three connections; the camera power, which includes a positive and negative wire, and the camera signal. Siamese cable has three wires; the camera signal coax wire and two power wires, which are red and black. The camera signal cable requires a RG-59 BNC connector on each end. Your camera came with a power supply which looks something like a cell phone recharger. The camera power supply cord will be cut in half and connected to the power wires on each end of the Siamese cable.


Instructions


1. Separate the power wires from the coax wire on each end of the Siamese cable.


2. Strip the coax with the coax stripper and install a BNC connector on each end of the coaxial cable, using your RG-59 crimping tool according to the instructions which came with the BNC connector.


3. Cut the camera power cord in half. Split both ends of the power cord a few inches and strip all four wires about ½ of an inch. Strip the ends of the Siamese cable power wires about ½ of an inch.


4. Connect the power supply wires to the Siamese cable power wires on one end using the insulated butt splice connectors and crimp them with a standard wire crimp tool.


5. Connect the camera power cable to the other end of the Siamese cable power wires the same way you did in the previous step.


6. Connect your camera to the Siamese coax through the BNC barrel, plug the power cable into your camera and plug the camera power supply in. Connect the Siamese cable coax to your video monitor or video recorder and ensure you have a signal. Wrap the wire and insulated butt splice connectors about one inch past the connectors with electrical tape to protect them from corrosion. Wrap the BNC barrel, connectors and wire with electrical tape the same way.

Retrieve Photos On A Broken Memory Card

Unlike film, a damaged memory card could mean the loss of years' worth of photographs.


Unlike traditional cameras, whose picture-storage capacity is confined to a roll of film, digital cameras offer users the chance to store thousands of pictures on a single memory card. Although they may be convenient, these digital memory cards come with a downside. Unlike film, a damaged memory card could mean the loss of years' worth of photographs. Luckily, this pitfall can be mitigated by software that allows for the retrieval of data from damaged memory cards.


Instructions


1. Check either the box that your memory card came in, or the memory card manufacturer's website, and find out which kind of formatting your memory card stores its data in. Data-retrieval software can only retrieve photos stored in JPG, BMP, TIFF, PNG and GIF formats.


2. Connect your digital camera to a USB port by plugging the camera's provided USB cable into the port. Make sure that the damaged memory card is placed inside the camera's memory slot.


3. Click on "My Computer" (for PC) or "Finder" (for Mac) and locate the camera's memory device. If your camera does not appear, you will need to remove the damaged card from the camera, and place it in an external USB device. These devices provide a slot for your memory card and have a USB cable to connect the card to the USB port. They are widely available and can be found at Amazon, BestBuy or Wal-Mart, among others.


4. Download data-retrieval software. There are several options, some of which are free of charge. Popular data recovery software includes CardRecovery, DiskDoctors and File Recover 8. All of these programs are either free, or offer free demos that can be used to recover your files. These files can be downloaded by clicking "Download" on their web pages, and selecting the "Run" option from the next two windows that pop up. After clicking "Run" on the second window, an installation wizard will appear. Follow the instructions of the wizard, and click "Next" after completing each prompt.


5. Click "Next" after your software is downloaded, making sure that your damaged memory card is showing up on "My Computer" or "Finder."


6. Click "Step 1" on your software. This step will be offered automatically after completing the installation process.


7. Click on the drive in which your memory card is located. If you are unsure of which drive your memory card is located in, check "Finder" or "My Computer"; the drive's letter will be shown in parentheses next to your memory card.


8. Click "Step 2" to initiate your software's scanning of your memory card. It may take several minutes. The software will then display a list of found pictures. Right-click (command + click on Mac) and select "Save As" for any pictures that you would like to salvage. Save them to the photo program of your choice.

Play An 8mm Video Tape

View your 8mm on your TV or camcorder.


Manufactured and sold in the late 1980s and into the 1990s, the 8mm video format was a popular format for home videographers. With the advent and wide usage of the miniDV format in the late 1990s, 8mm format fell out of favor, then production. However, many people still have 8mm films, so viewing the medium is still common. Depending on the camcorder you have available to you, you may view an 8mm tape on a TV or directly from the camcorder.


Instructions


LCD Screen Viewing


1. Plug AC adapter into a wall socket with the other end connected to the power cord port in the rear.


2. Slide "Eject" switch down while pressing the blue button on top of it to open the tape slot.


3. Insert the 8mm cassette into the tape slot.


4. Close the tape close by applying pressure to the area marked "Push."


5. Open LCD screen on the side of the camera.


6. Turn the camera on by sliding the function switch to "VTR." Press play to view your 8mm video on the LCD screen.


TV Monitor Viewing


7. Plug AC adapter into a wall socket with the other end connected to the power cord port in the rear.


8. Slide "Eject" switch down while pressing the blue button on top of it to open the tape slot.


9. Insert the 8mm cassette into the tape slot.

13. Turn on your TV and set to the necessary channel for viewing external video.


14. Press the play button on your 8mm video camera to play your 8mm video tape.

Get Pictures Off A Memory Card

Get those photos off your memory card and out for sharing.


Moving the pictures off of your digital camera's memory card and onto your computer is a very easy task. Once you've got the pictures at your fingertips, edit them with your photo editing software and share them with the world.


Instructions


1. Identify the type of memory card that you have. Some are normal size like an SD card in your digital camera. Many cell phones have microSD cards; these won't fit into a standard memory card reader and need an adapter. Adapters can be bought individually for each card, or you can buy a USB plug in device that has spots for these smaller memory cards.


2. Plug your memory card into your computer or into a USB memory card reader. You should receive a dialogue box asking you what you want to do with the media -- select "View Files." If you don't get the dialogue box, go to "Start," "Menu," "My Computer" and double-click your memory card under "Devices with Removable Storage."


3. Locate the folder called "DCIM." You'll probably see two more folders inside this folder. Select the top one and you should start to see your images coming up. Change the icon view to "Large Icons." Click on the "Views" button until the files are large enough for you to clearly see what each picture is.


4. Leave the folder open so you can still view all the photos, and minimize all windows so that it's just the desktop. Right-click on the screen and select "New" and "Folder." Name this folder so you'll remember what's inside it.


5. Double-click and open your new folder. Move it to one side of your screen. Maximize the DCIM folder so you can see all your photos. Press "CTRL" + "A" (this will highlight all the pictures), and then press "CTRL" + "C" (this will copy all). Click back onto your computer's new folder and press "CTRL" + "V" (this will paste a duplicate of your pictures into your new folder).


6. Remove all the pictures off your memory card and clear up some space by returning to the DCIM folder and selecting the photos a second time. Hit your "Delete" key to delete the photos. You can also cut the photos off your memory card and paste them into your computer's folder by holding down "CTRL" + "X" instead of "CRTL" + "C."


7. Go to your picture folder you created and delete any bad photos that you don't want. It's a lot easier to do it here than on the camera itself.

Repair A Flash Drive

Flash memory devices are essentially miniature hard drives that allow you to keep your data in a portable location. Flash drives do store and transfer their data in different ways than standard hard drives, which can occasionally lead to problems. If you use your flash drive incorrectly, or simply use it on a regular basis over an extended length of time, the data can become corrupted. There are several different ways you can try to repair the drive and recover the corrupted files.


Instructions


1. Plug the flash memory drive into an open USB port on your computer. Open the Start menu and select "My Computer."


2. Right-click the driver letter for your flash memory drive. Click "Properties." Navigate to the "Tools" tab.


3. Click "Check Now" underneath the "Error Checking" heading. Click the "Automatically Fix File System Errors" and "Scan For and Attempt Recovery of Bad Sectors" check boxes. Click "Start."


4. Wait for the error-checking process to finish running. Try opening or modifying one of the files on the drive to find out if the problem was fixed.


5. Navigate to one of the Resources links if the data on the drive is still corrupted. Download and install a flash drive repair utility such as "BadCopy Pro," "Recover My Files," or "Virtual Lab Data Recovery."


6. Open the repair utility. Click "Recover" or the equivalent option for the utility you downloaded. Select "Browse" and then choose the flash memory drive.


7. Click "Output" or the equivalent option. Select the folder where you want the recovered data to be saved. Click "Start."


8. Try accessing the data on the flash memory drive again. Return to the "My Computer" window if the data is still corrupted. Right-click the drive letter again and choose "Format."


9. Click "Start" to reformat the flash drive.

Blur The Background With A Dslr

Give your photo a dramatic effect by blurring its background.


Digital single-lens reflex cameras, or DSLRs for short, are capable of taking pictures in a wide variety of settings and capturing many different effects. One effect that can be achieved is having a subject in focus while the background is blurred. When your settings are set to "automatic," the camera keeps everything in focus, including the background. However, it's simple to adjust the settings on your DSLR to blur your photo's background.


Instructions


1. Change the mode on your camera to "aperture priority" mode by sliding the dial to "A," or "Av" if you have a Canon camera.


2. Move the "scroll wheel" on your camera to alter the "f" number. This is a number that will appear on your digital screen, usually as a whole number and a tenth decimal (such as 8.6). Often, there is a letter "f" that appears before the number; if not, you'll know it's the f number because it will change as you slide the scroll wheel. Change the f number to the lowest possible numeric value (this varies by camera).


3. Keep your subject far away from the background, so as to heighten the effect of the blur.


4. Stand back a little bit from your subject and zoom in with your lens. The zoom will also help accentuate the effect of the blur.


5. Snap your photo and view the results. Your picture should have a clear subject with a blurred background. Put your camera back into "automatic" mode when you're finished taking photos with blurred backgrounds.

Fix A Blank Screen On A Pioneer Inno

The Pioneer Inno includes everything needed for you to listen to XM broadcasts in your car and at home - and thanks to the receiver's internal antenna and battery, you're not anchored to the device's home or automotive accessories. But a frozen, blank display can render your Inno essentially useless - and an intermittent blank screen can be almost as crippling. The Pioneer Inno has no user serviceable parts, meaning you can replace the display or any blown internal components. But before you send your Pioneer Inno in for repairs, there are a few simple things you can do that may help you resolve your Inno's display problems.


Instructions


1. Turn off your Pioneer Inno - slide the power switch down. Turn the unit over and then slide off its battery cover.


2. Pry the bottom edge of the battery up out of its compartment. Wait a few seconds for the power to cycle out and then reinsert the battery into the battery compartment.


3. Slide the battery cover back onto the Inno and then power the unit back on.

Clean Digital Camera Lens

Digital camera lenses must be handled with care.


The sharpness and clarity of your digital photo requires a camera lens free from dust, dirt and grease. Digital camera lenses are made of glass, and as such are prone to scratches, smudges and oils. Improper cleaning of a lens can scratch the surface of the glass and ruin your camera. Invest in the proper lens-cleaning tools to keep your photos looking great, and clean your camera lens before each photographic session for best results.


Instructions


1. Remove the lens cap and examine the lens for dust or smudging. Blast air over the lens with a lens blower or canned air to remove particles and dirt.


2. Wipe the lens carefully with a microfiber cloth or lens tissues. A chemical-free microfiber cloth offers superior cleaning for digital lenses and will not scratch or smear the way other natural materials can.


3. Use a lens brush to remove imbedded dirt trapped in the crevices surrounding the glass lens.


4. Use a small amount of lens fluid on a microfiber cloth to remove persistent dirt on the lens. Apply a few small drops on the cloth; rub in circular motions over the lens until the dirt is removed.


5. Dry the digital camera lens completely before using a lens pen to remove any stubborn spots or smears. The treated chamois cloth pad on the pen effectively removes grease and oils from the glass surface when rubbed over the lens. Many come in handy dual-action kits with a brush on one side and the pen on the other.


6. Store your digital camera lens cleaning equipment in a soft bag or plastic baggie to keep it clean and ready-to-use. Tightly cap the lens fluid before storage.

Improve Sirius Radio Fm Transmitter Strength

Using an FM transmitter with your Sirius Satellite Radio receiver is not a perfect way to listen to programming in your car. The FM transmitter needs a perfectly clear channel to function properly, which can be difficult to find in a major city or populated location. However, there are a few things that you can try to improve the overall strength of the transmitted signal and improve the clarity of the content you're trying to listen to.

1. Tune your car stereo's FM radio to a frequency that is completely free of any kind of programming. The transmission of a local radio station will always be more powerful than the FM transmitter that came with your Sirius receiver, so if you tune to a frequency with programming, the local station will always bleed through. If you find a frequency that has little to no local programming, you can boost the quality of the signal that your radio antenna is receiving and hear clearer satellite radio.


2. Position your Sirius receiver's FM transmitter as close to your car's antenna as possible. The shorter a distance that FM radio waves have to travel, the more powerful they will ultimately be. Therefore, if you position the FM transmitter as close to the antenna as is physically possible by the layout of your car, you can boost the quality of the signal being transmitted.


3. Upgrade your FM transmitter to a more powerful unit. The FM transmitter that comes with Sirius Satellite Radio receivers will be of a generic quality to keep the costs of the overall product as low as possible. If you go to an electronics retailer that sells portable audio accessories you can purchase a unit that is capable of broadcasting a much stronger signal. It will work the same way that your previous FM transmitter did, but the signal quality will be substantially better which will result in better quality audio.

Restore Iphone 3g To Factory Settings

The day may come that you are going to give away or sell your iPhone 3G, but you don't want the recipient to access any of your personal information. Apple provides an easy way to delete everything from your iPhone and restore it to factory settings.


Instructions


1. Back up the iPhone in iTunes before proceeding.


2. Find the "Settings" icon on your iPhone screen. The icon contains an image of gears. Tap the "Settings" icon.


3. Tap the line that says "General." It also has the gear icon.


4. Scroll down the screen until you see a line that says "Reset." Tap "Reset."


5. View the options on the screen, which include resets for settings, home screen, keyboard dictionary, network settings and location warning. To erase all data, select the line that says "Erase All Content and Settings." When you select it, a box pops up with a red button that says "Erase iPhone." Touch the red button and your iPhone erases all data on the phone.

Do It Yourself Wireless Camera Alarm Systems

You can set the camera to alert you on a schedule.


Camera systems can be programmed to send an alert (alarm) by e-mail or cell phone text when they are triggered through their motion detection functionality. They can even be programmed to send an alarm if they haven't been triggered---acting as a latch key kid monitor. You can set the camera to alert you on a schedule, for example only to text you if the camera is triggered during certain hours. The alert can send frames, or the entire video.


Instructions


1. Install the camera and the control software following the manufacturer's instructions. Locate the camera where it can protect entry and exit points. Run any power lines.


2. Launch the control software, configure the camera and set the alarms. Logon to the online account that comes with the security system and click on the Connection Monitoring tab. Create an e-mail or cell phone alert. Specify whether you want the alarm to occur if the camera or the control software's computer goes offline too.


3. Specify under what parameters you want the alert to occur. Use the control software to map the zone on the camera image that you want to use to trigger the alert. This is called the Detection Zone. Identify the camera (in a multiple camera setup) and select it. There will be a "Define Zones" tab. Use the mouse to map an area on the screen that you want to use to trigger the alarm when motion is detected. For example, you may want to trigger an alarm only when the top of a fence is breached, not the pathway in front of the fence. Save the configuration.


4. Turn on your cell phone or E-mail application and test. Create a movement within the Detection Zone and the wireless camera system will send an alarm, alerting you to the movement. Depending on the configuration it will send you the video as an attachment too.

Install A Tv Antenna Booster

A TV antenna booster can provide the extra kick your video system might need for outstanding video performance. A booster is simply a self-contained amplifier that serves the dual function of filtering noise and boosting signal strength in the television frequency bands. They're most useful when you've got an antenna's signal split between multiple signals or working with a weak signal caused by distance or a poor antenna placement.


Instructions


1. Pick a spot in your television cable run where you can install the booster. A TV antenna signal booster is installed in-line; that is, the cable must connect to the input and output of the booster (see the picture). If you're only boosting the signal for one television, it's logical to install it near the television. If you're boosting signal for multiple televisions, choose a spot near your antenna line splitter.


2. Unscrew the television cable from its existing connection (i.e., television, line splitter) and connect a cable from the "output" of the booster to your television's input or the input of the line splitter. You'll only need a short length of coaxial cable with RG-59 connectors for this. The connectors on the end of your cable simply unscrew and screw on. If the connection is too tight to loosen with your fingers, use a small wrench to loosen it.


3. Connect the cable coming from the antenna to the "input" of the antenna booster.


4. Plug the antenna booster into a wall output. This provides electricity for the booster's internal amplifier.

Recover Sd Card Photos

2. Download Recuva, a free program, to recover deleted images. From the drop-down box at the top, select the SD card. All of the deleted files will be displayed below. Check the boxes beside the images you want and click "Restore."


3. Use eIMAGE Recovery, a program that costs $27 as of 2010. You can recover deleted images and images that have been formatted. Select the drive from the drive selection box, click on the checkbox of the files you want and click the "Restore" button.

Camcorders' video output connections vary according to manufacturer and model, but most will have either a single S-video connector or three different colored-yellow, red, and white-RCA video output connectors. Once you have determined what type of video output connectors you need, you can purchase the correct audio/visual cables, if necessary.


2. Use the appropriate audio/video cable to connect your camcorder to your television. For camcorders with RCA video output connectors, use a RCA audio/video cable. How Wireless Cameras Work

Wireless cameras are often used in the security field as a way to make video surveillance available where wires may not be available. If you are considering setting up a security system in your home, using wireless video cameras may be something to consider, depending on the layout of your home.


Wireless Cameras


The basic idea behind a wireless security camera is that the camera captures the video signal and then relays it to a wireless transmitter. The wireless transmitter then sends the signal to the wireless receiver located at the central unit of the security system. The signal is then converted back into a video feed to be displayed on a monitor or recorded for later viewing by the owner of the property. It works in much the same way as a radio signal when the video feed is transmitted.


Wireless Internet


Another type of wireless camera uses the Internet to transmit video feed instead of using a direct signal. With this option, you need a wireless router that can reach the wireless camera and the receiver. With this option, the wireless camera transmits the signal through the Wi-Fi signal and then it is picked up by the receiver through the Internet. Although wireless cameras are billed as completely "wireless" they are not completely without wires. Even though you do not need a wire for the video feed, you do need some kind of power source for the camera. Because of this, you will need to install the camera near an electrical outlet or where one can be installed. This creates a scenario that is not quite as convenient as what is implied by the term "wireless."


Considerations


Wireless security cameras are typically the most convenient when installing in an existing home in which wiring could not easily be run. By doing this, you only have to find a power source, which is usually nearby in most homes. This prevents you from having to run wiring through an older home that is not set up with this in mind. It results in less work for the installer and can be installed quicker overall.

1. Store your batteries fully charged. Over time the batteries will loose charge, and when the battery is completely dead is when damage can occur. If your batteries have been on the shelf for 30 days, take them out, charge them fully and then put them back into storage.


2. Drain the batteries completely dead at least once a month. If it is a nickel cadmium battery, do this anytime you can. Nickel cadmium batteries have a "memory," and if you constantly recharge the battery with 50 percent usage, for example, you will soon end up with a battery that only offers 50 percent capacity. Run the batteries all the way dead at least once a month and then immediately recharge them to 100 percent capacity.


3. Remove the batteries from the charger as soon as they are fully charged.

Burn Dvds With A Media Center Pc To Watch Using A Dedicated Dvd Player

Instructions


1. Insert a writable DVD disk into your Media Center DVD drive. Make sure the disk is blank or rewritable or else your system will not recognize the media.


2. Use the Start Button on your remote and select "My TV."


3. Use the arrows on the remote and go to "Recorded TV" on the My TV screen.


4. Select the program you wish to burn on the DVD from the list of recorded shows. Press the "More Info" button on your remote then select the "Create CD/DVD" option from the displayed list.


5. View the disc format screen and select "Video DVD" and press "OK." You will be asked to give a name to the DVD using the keys on the remote control.


6. Select "Create DVD" on the View DVD screen. The Initiating Copy dialog box will open, then select "Yes" to continue. Your DVD will start the burning process and may take several minutes as Media Center compresses the files so they will fit onto the disc.


7. Continue using your computer by selecting "OK" on the Creation Progress dialog box. Remove the DVD from the tray when the Media Center PC ejects it after it's finished burning.


8. Click "Done" on the Completing Disc Creation dialog box. Your DVD is now ready and you can watch the shows with any dedicated DVD player.

Install Home Stereo Systems

If you enjoy music, then you will want to purchase a home stereo system. The imaging and concert hall-like ambience of a good home stereo system cannot be reproduced using headphones and an MP3 player. However, to get the best performance from your home stereo, it must be set up correctly.


Instructions


1. Determine where you will place your stereo system. Ideally, it would be in a separate listening room or in an area that allows enough space for each speaker to be placed symmetrically a few feet from of the receiver.


2. Measure the distance from where you will place the receiver to where the speakers will be. Ideally, each tower speaker will be along a horizontal line three to six feet to the left and right of the receiver for good stereo imaging. Both speakers must be placed symmetrically. When using bookshelf speakers, use speaker stands to ensure that midrange speakers are level with your ears when you are seated.


3. Place the speakers in their measured locations, and cut your speaker wire with wire cutters to the measurements you obtained. Add six to eight inches to each wire so that you have a bit of extra wire to work with.


4. Use wire strippers to remove approximately 1/4 inch of the plastic sheath from the positive and negative leads of the speaker wire on both ends. Next, attach the positive lead to the positive terminal of each speaker and the negative lead to the negative terminal.


5. Examine the back of the receiver and locate the left and right channel output terminals. They will be spring-loaded clip-type terminals that are red or black in color. Red indicates positive polarity, and black indicates negative polarity.


6. Connect your speakers to the right and left channel speaker outputs of your stereo receiver. The speaker to your right when you are seated is the right channel, and the speaker to your left is the left channel. Make sure that you observe the proper polarity. Connective positive to positive and negative to negative for each channel, just as you did for the speakers.


7. Double-check your connections and power on the stereo receiver. Test your stereo setup by playing a CD and checking that sound is output to each receiver. Most stereo systems have a CD player built in to the receiver. However, if your does not, connect one using an RCA cable to the "CD In" connection located on the back of the receiver.

What Is A Cable Splitter

When wiring your audio or video system, there will be occasions when you want to have a single source (cable) supplying two or more outlet devices. Rather than run two cables or modify your equipment, you can use a cable splitter. While the name may indicate work is required, a cable splitter is a very simple device. The hardest part is determining what type to use, and when.


Function


A cable splitter's sole function is to allow multiple devices to receive a signal from a single supply source. Example: You want to have a DVD player hooked up to two television sets at the same time. Since there is only one outlet port on the DVD player, you will need insert a cable splitter. In this case you would use a two-way splitter. One side of the splitter would have a single coaxial port. This is your input. On the opposite side you will have two coaxial ports. These are your outputs, which will go to your television sets.


Installation Tips


Depending on your situation, you will want to run a single coaxial cable as far as possible before installing the cable splitter. This will save on installation time as well as reduce the amount of cable needed for the job. You will also want to make certain all of the coaxial cable connections are secure. A loose connection can produce a weak signal to your output device.


Limits


You will want to keep the number of cable splitters used to an absolute minimum. With each cable splitter, you will lose signal strength. In some cases you can lose up to 50 percent of your signal, so keep this in mind when laying out your system. In certain cases, you will need to amplify the signal. This is done with an AC power source, which will boost the signal to each device.


Types


There are several types of cable splitters. In the area of coaxial splitters you can purchase a two-, four- or eight-way splitter. Other splitters with varying output ports are available but are mostly used for special applications. A second type of splitter is refereed to as a "topless" splitter. These splitters have screw connections that can be used to connect speaker wires and other audio equipment. These, too, are available in a variety of configurations offering varying output ports depending on your application.


Performance


As with most types of electrical equipment, there are different levels of performance when it comes to cable splitters. As mentioned, you can lose signal strength when splitting a cable to two or more devices. The higher quality the cable splitter, the higher your signal strength will be to each device. If you are mounting any of the splitters outdoors, make certain they are rated for outdoor use, and you may want to consider installing them where they will be somewhat protected from the elements.

Use Antistatic Wrist Straps

According to PC World magazine, electrostatic discharge ("static") can ruin your computer. Small amounts of static electricity can irreparably damage the circuits inside your computer's components. This static electricity can be transferred from you to your computer whenever you open the computer case and touch any of the components. You can virtually eliminate this risk by wearing an anti-static wrist strap whenever you touch the computer's internal components. PC World recommends anti-static wrist straps as the "easiest way to dissipate static electricity."


Instructions


1. Place the wristband of the anti-static wrist strap around your bare wrist.


2. Secure the wristband so that the metal plate on the inside of the band is firmly pressed against the underside of your arm. The metal plate should have as much contact with your skin as possible, so place it in the spot where you have the least amount of hair.


3. Connect the strap to the wristband. The strap and wristband usually connect via a simple snap mechanism.


4. Clip the alligator clip on the end of the strap onto an anti-static mat or any bare metal surface that is touching the ground (e.g., the computer case).
