When you connect your JVC television up to any outside source, such as a DVD player or a cable/satellite receiver, the default resolution for the television is going to be used. However, if you have an HD JVC TV and you connect it to a HD cable/satellite receiver you need to correct the resolution and aspect ratio to make sure you are using the best quality settings for your JVC TV.
Instructions
1. Press the "Zoom" button on the JVC television remote. This button adjusts the way the picture is presented on the screen. This can vary from standard image or squashed image to a zoomed in, cropped picture. You want your image to be "Normal." When the normal setting is displayed you are going to see "Normal" across the bottom of the screen.
2. Press the "Menu" button on your cable/receiver's remote. This brings up a variety of different options you can choose from. Use the directional arrow buttons on your remote control to select "Options."
3. Find "Video Options" and select "Aspect Ratio." This is going to bring up the different aspect ratios you can use on the television. To have the best resolution presented on your TV you want the aspect ratio to match what your JVC TV is. (480, 720 or 1080). If you are not exactly sure what the aspect ratio is check your user manual.
4. Select the correct aspect ratio and approve the change. Close out the menu options and return to the television programming. You should see the adjusted picture on the JVC TV and the resolution should be at its highest quality.
Stuffed animals pick up dust and dirt easily. If you are an allergy and/or asthma sufferer, this can have negative effects on your health. Cleaning stuffed animals should be done frequently and carefully in order to preserve their longevity.
Cleaning Standard Stuffed Animals
Clean your stuffed animals in the washer by putting them inside a pillowcase. Make sure that the pillowcase is zipped or tied up. It is best to wash the stuffed animals with a gentle detergent on the gentle cycle. The amount of detergent to use depends on the quantity of stuffed animals you are washing. Typically, you will use about a capful of detergent. If the stuffed animals are heavily soiled, then you should increase the amount of detergent to a capful and a half. Wash light- and dark-colored animals separately in case colors bleed.
To dry the stuffed animals, place them near a dehumidifier to ensure no damage will occur while drying. It takes about three days for the stuffed animals to dry inside and outside. The heat from using a dryer could cause the fur or hair to get damaged.
For extra caution with the washer-cleaning process (especially regarding the animal's shape and formation of mildew inside), make a slit in a side seam and remove the stuffing. Once the outer skin is washed and dried, refill the skin with stuffing and sew the animal back up.
Cleaning Stuffed Animals That Can't Be Immersed
Some stuffed animals cannot be immersed in water. Read the manufacturer's care instructions on the label to check. To remove dust, simply use the brush attachment on a vacuum cleaner. Then use a clean, wet cloth and gentle detergent to gently spot clean. Wipe with a soap-free cloth to rinse.
Cleaning Large Stuffed Animals
Large stuffed animals, such as life-size animals, will not fit in the washer. In this case, use baking soda to remove the surface dirt. Apply some baking soda with a rough towel. Let the baking soda sit for about a half an hour. Use a towel to rub the stuffed animal vigorously until clean.
If you are an artist or a craftsman, you will find many uses for a light box. A light box is easy and fun to build and even more fun to use for your photography projects---specifically, the pictures that you take of products you want to sell. Either for professional or amateur sales, a light box is definitely the way to go to show off all of the intricate details of your items.
Instructions
1. Lay three of the poster board sheets end to end. Use the masking tape to tape the sheets together at the seams. The tape is flexible, so it will act as a sort of hinge. Turn the two end sheets up 90 degrees to the center piece.
2. Use the two additional poster board sheets to create a five-sided box by using the masking tape to attach them. Don't use the masking tape on the inside of the box unless it is pure white like the poster board.
3. Clip the desk lamps on the edges of the box facing inward to get the light effect that you want. You can use different wattage or different colors to get the light effects that you want.

Use Pocket Wizards with your external camera flash to create more interesting light.
Pocket Wizards are used to trigger external camera flashes when they are not attached to the camera's hot shoe. Prior to Pocket Wizards, if you wanted to set a flash in a remote off-camera location, you would have had to use a "sync cord" and the location of the flash would have been limited to the length of the cord. Using Pocket Wizards, photographers are able to create interesting lighting setups by placing external flashes in different parts of the scene.
Instructions
1. Attach a Pocket Wizard to both the camera and to the flash unit.
2. Set the channel to "1" on each Pocket Wizard and set the "Transmit Mode" to "Both" on each.
3. Turn on your camera, flash and both of the Pocket Wizards.
4. Attach the flash to a light stand or a mini stand if one was included with the flash unit.
5. Position the flash so it will illuminate the part of the room or scene you want to add light to.
6. Hold the camera to your eye and press the shutter release halfway to engage the camera and flash. Look through the viewfinder and confirm the flash is receiving a signal. There will be a small lightning bolt symbol in your viewfinder indicating the flash is in communication with the Pocket Wizards.
7. Hold the camera to your eye again, compose the picture and press the shutter release fully to take the picture.

Posterization is what happens when the color border lines in photographs can actually be seen. Normally the eye can't tell where one color in a photograph begins and another ends. When posterization occurs, it usually results in thick bands in the photograph. However, as long as you have photo editing software, you can fix the problem in a few minutes.
Instructions
1. Open Photoshop and import the photo with the posterization into the program. Open the photo in the program.
2. Click on the "Layer/New Layer" tab to create a new layer.
3. Uncheck the "Clipping Mask" checkbox.
4. Enter a new name for the layer, such as "Posterization" in the text box.
5. Use your mouse to move the new layer to the top of the layer's palette.
6. Select the new layer and hold down the "Alt" key ("Option" key on a Mac) and click the "Layer/Merge Visible" tab. The layer will now be a duplicate of everything below it.
7. Add noise to this layer by clicking "Filter/Noise/Add." Select a small amount of noise to add when prompted, such as 3 percent.
8. Look at the distribution control and make sure it is set to "Gaussian."
9. Click on the "Add Mask" option to add a mask to the photo, so only the banded areas are affected by the noise you have added.
10. Click on "Sharpening" to add a sharpening layer to the mask. The posterization is now fixed.
Motion sensor lights are often used as part of a security system.
Motion detector lights are often installed as either welcoming illumination for visitors, or a deterrent for would-be home invaders. Motion detector lights detect movement within the range of a sensor that is part of the light. When motion is detected, the light turns on. The light then stays on for a preprogrammed amount of time. If you are having trouble with your motion detector light, you may need to check the sensors and the electrical supply to get the light up and running again.
Instructions
Light Is Not Turning On
1. Turn the light switch to the "On" position if it is not turning on. Many motion detector lights are set up with an "On/Off" switch.
2. Check the bulb of the light and screw it in completely. If the bulb looks black or burned out, try a new bulb.
3. Inspect the fuse box controlling the light for tripped fuses. Turn any tripped fuses to the "On" position. Unscrew the fuse from the box if it turns off immediately, and inspect the fuse for breaks. Replace the fuse if it is broken or burned out.
4. Remove any obstructions in front of the sensor, such as tree branches, leaves or litter that may be blocking it. Aim the sensor to the desired trigger area.
Erratic Light Behavior
5. Reinstall the light control in a different area that receives more light if the lights are coming on during the daytime. This indicates the light is installed in a location that's too dark.
6. Re-aim the sensor if it is being triggered by traffic or other faraway movements.
7. Turn down the motion sensor range according to the instructions in the manual if the light is turning on too frequently, such as when pieces of litter, leaves or small animals pass in front of the sensor.
8. Turn the sensor away from hot air sources such as vents if the light stays on continuously.

A light tent box is used in photography to create a well lit environment to photograph still objects, like products for a website or online auction. It is covered in a white fabric, usually muslin, so that when lights are placed outside of the box, the fabric casts a soft, glow-like lighting effect on the item photographed. Light tents sell for upwards of $150 at photography stores, but the effect can be reproduced for less than $10 with a sturdy cardboard box.
Instructions
1. Tape the bottom of the box closed with masking tape.
2. Cut off the top flaps of the box leaving 2 inches of the flaps on all four sides.
3. Tape down the remaining 2 inches of the four top flaps using the masking tape. Make sure they are taped down securely.
4. Draw a square on one side of the box, 2 inches from the box's edges. Use the measuring tape or a ruler to ensure the square is exactly 2 inches from the edge of the box.
5. Draw a square on the opposite side of the box, 2 inches from the box's edges.
6. Draw a square on one of the remaining sides of the box, 2 inches from the box's edges.
7. Cut along the lines of the squares that you just drew, using the utility knife. This should make three open sides of the box that look like windows.
8. Drape the white fabric over the box covering the sides and top of the box. Muslin is a good fabric choice, as it is thin, lint free and inexpensive. Nylon or t-shirt fabric would also work.
9. Tape the muslin along the front edge and along the bottom of the box to hold the fabric in place.
10. Place the poster board inside the light tent. It should be propped against the solid side of the box you did not cut. It may be necessary to trim the poster to fit the width of the box, but do not cut the height. Instead, allow the poster board to "bow" or "scoop" instead of creasing it into the box. It should fit gently between the front of the box and the top back edge of the uncut side. You are now ready to position whatever lights you want around the top and sides of the box, then photograph your items.

America's number one cable television provider Comcast and America's two major satellite providers have been facing off for years now. With the age of HDTV, some thought a decisive blow would be delivered to one of them. That hasn't been the case. The decision of which provider to choose is still as contentious and confusing. There really isn't a right answer. It's a decision based upon your own personal concerns and situation.
Location
Where you live will have a significant impact on your choice. For example, DirectTV requires an unobstructed view of the southwestern sky. If you have thick overhanging trees and shade, you may have difficulty getting a clear look to the sky. If you're unable or unwilling to keep your trees trimmed away, your decision is already made. Conversely, if you live in a rural area (though these areas are constantly shrinking with cable's expansion), you may not be able to get wired cable service, either. Obviously, these factors could make the decision for you.
Comparisons
If you're like most people, you'll make a choice between cable and satellite. There are some fundamental differences that might persuade you immediately. Satellite providers have a direct link to an orbiting dish in the sky. Because of that, you'll be unaffected by downed cable lines in your neighborhood (assuming the electricity still works). Conversely, strong weather patterns or even simply cloud coverage in rare circumstances will affect your dish's ability to connect with the broadcast.
Rent or Own?
In many ways, the decision between cable and satellite is a decision between ownership or rental. With satellite, you essentially own your equipment and thus are responsible for its upkeep. Because of that fact, you pay upfront for your equipment (receivers and dishes are generally given as part of a contract agreement) but pay a lower monthly fee. With Comcast, you rent your equipment and have no contract. In turn, if your box is damaged by a storm the cable company will replace it with no additional cost to you, but you pay a larger monthly fee. Again, these factors alone may make the decision for you.
Service
Both Comcast and satellite like to tout their high customer-satisfaction ratings. Unfortunately, the reality is less clear. There are scores of horror stories from customers about both companies. Given that, it's tough to say which company will give you the best possible customer service. Ask your friends and neighbors. Eventually, you may find some evidence to sway you.
Hi Def
In reality, most customers are less interested in how their service is provided and more interested in what programming options are available. DirecTV has spent the bulk of its advertising slamming cable's "lack" of HD programming. Comcast has taken a slightly higher road, selling themselves as an all-in-one Internet, telephone and television provider. DirecTV suggests that it has "130 HD channels," and in one sense it's true. If you count every channel it offers, you'll get the magic 130 number. However, it's important to note that dozens of the channels are tied up in movie, sports and additional channel packages that you may or may not want. For example, DirectTV counts all of the channels that broadcast its Major League Baseball package as separate channels. Unless you subscribe to the sports and movie packages, you'll end up with less than 50 HD channels. Comcast doesn't attempt to dupe customers in this way, but it lags in total number of HD channels with somewhere between 20 to 35, depending on the market. Spend some time with the channel lineups for your area and be sure that whichever service you choose it has the channels you want most.

All LCD monitors have hundreds of thousands of pixels, each made up of three color cells. It is rare for every cell in every pixel to be working properly. Monitor manufacturers have a minimum number of dead and stuck pixels that each of their monitors can have, even when they are brand new. If your monitor is no longer under warranty or your manufacturer won't support the number of pixels you have problems with, there are still solutions. Read on to learn fix a stuck pixel on an LCD monitor.
Instructions
1. Identify your pixel problem. A stuck pixel is one where one or more of the cells is stuck on (so you have a bright, oddly colored, point of light) or off (you have an oddly dark spot). A dead pixel that no longer works will appear as a black spot.
2. Try running pixel fixing software. This method is the safest for the health of your monitor so it should always be the first thing you attempt. There are several pixel testing programs out there and most of them are free. The software will rapidly turn pixels on and off. Cycling through the various colors very rapidly will sometimes "unstick" the pixels and fix the problem.
3. Memorize the location of the pixel and turn off your monitor. Using a pointed, but dull, object (such as a screwdriver) poke your monitor gently at the point of the stuck pixel. You may want to use a protective cloth so the object doesn't directly touch the screen. While poking, turn the monitor on and continue to poke for a few seconds. This may fix the pixel.
4. Tap on the stuck pixel with a soft but pointed object such as the edge of a pencil eraser. You will need to do this hard enough to create a discoloration at the point of impact but not so hard as to hurt the screen. After tapping the monitor five to 10 times, the pixel may start to behave normally.

It's easy to build a PC home audio system. Follow the steps listed below to create a home audio system on your PC.
Instructions
Making Your PC a Home Audio Center
1. Decide how many speakers you want. You can use anywhere from two speakers up to seven, plus a subwoofer.
2. Purchase a sound card. In order to purchase a sound card, you must know the slot type your PC uses. Most newer computers will have PCI-Express. AGP, on the other hand, has largely been phased out. The sound card you purchase should be able to handle the number of speakers you want. You will want to check the specifications of the sound card. You want to make sure that the sound card has a digital input jack so that you can connect sound from a DVD player or other device to the audio system you are creating and maintain surround quality.
3. Purchase a speaker system. Unlike regular surround sound systems, those for PCs have amplifiers built into the speaker systems, making the choices even more complex. You should purchase a system that you have researched, listened to and fits your personal tastes.
4. Open your computer case. Make sure you have turned off and disconnected power from your computer before doing this step. Typically there will be one or more screws fastening the computer case closed. Simply unscrew and screws and either the side of the case should come off or there should be a hinge that allows the case to open.
5. Remove the old sound card. Simply detach the wire connected to the sound card and pull it out of the slot. You may have to remove another screw to do this, depending on your computer case.
6. Install the new sound card. Slide the new card into the slot you just removed the old one from. Attach the wire to the new sound card. Make sure everything is secure and close the computer case.
7. Position the speakers as you would like them in the room and connect the speaker system to the sound card.
8. Turn on your PC. Uninstall drivers and software for the old sound card. After the computer has rebooted, install the driver(s) for your new sound card. Normally this software will come on a CD with the sound card. If there is no CD with drivers, you will need to look online. Follow the prompts until the driver is installed.
9. Install any software you are going to use with this audio system. The sound card may have come with its own software, but there are also dozens of free audio and video programs you can download to use with this new PC home audio system.

Using the fill flash function on your compact film or digital camera to create catch-lights in eyes is simple. The flicker, or shine of light in the eyes, known as a catchlight, makes your subjects appear lively. Use these tips to make your subject's eyes twinkle and bring your pictures to life! This technique will enhance both indoor and outdoor photographs.
Instructions
Instructions:
1. Look at the features on your compact camera to see if your camera offers the option to use fill flash. Notice a lightning bolt icon, which indicates a flash menu on your camera. Several options may be available in this flash settings menu, including fill flash to create catchlights. Use your camera's user manual to locate this button or menu feature on your camera.
2. Set your camera so the flash menu is available. Choose Program Mode, Aperture Priority, Shutter Priority or even Manual Exposure Mode. Some digital cameras will not allow you to use the variety of flash options until you have set the camera to a mode that allows use of this menu. The Auto setting will usually not allow the camera user to manually choose flash options.
3. Read the flash menu options. Note the variety of options. You will see a variety of icons including a plain lighting bolt. This icon is the symbol that tells the camera to flash every time a picture is taken. Use this function to make sure the flash illuminates the subject's eyes during each picture.
4. Use the fill flash setting indoors and outdoors. Set your camera to the lighting bolt for all pictures. The flash will go off each time, creating a catch-light in your subject's eyes, even when they are outside in the shade. Notice the eyes twinkle with the extra light.
5. Use this technique on all photos of people. Enjoy the twinkling eyes and brighter pictures by adding flash to all of your pictures. This technique is called "fill flash" and adds a small amount of light called "catch-lights" to eyes.

Internal fogging can be fixed easily if you know what to do.
Internal fogging can be a serious headache for birdwatchers, or anyone else who uses binoculars. Fogging on the inside of the binoculars interferes with the viewing, and can't be easily wiped away like external fogging can. The moisture on the inside of the binoculars that causes fogging can also damage the binoculars, by promoting the growth of fungus inside them. Fortunately, the treatment of internal fogging is a fairly simple procedure, though it requires patience.
Instructions
1. Leave the binoculars in a warm dry place for several days. Most binoculars are not airtight, so any moisture inside the binoculars should evaporate into the drier air outside.
2. Seal the binoculars inside an airtight plastic bag along with some commercial desiccant. The desiccant will absorb the excess moisture, eliminating the source of the fogging.
3. Keep the binoculars as dry as possible on future outings, once the moisture has been removed. If you are using the binoculars during wet weather, keep them covered when you are not looking through them. Wipe off any outside moisture as soon as possible.

The Canon PowerShot SD800 IS Digital ELPH (an update to the popular SD700) camera has 7.1 megapixels and a wide-angle 3.8x optical zoom. The Image Stabilizer technology gives you steady zoom processes, and the facial recognition makes your portrait shots "pop."
Instructions
1. Notice the features of the Canon PowerShot SD800-7.1 megapixels, which allow for great prints, even taken at the 15 X 20 inch size and on a 2.5 inch display. The wide-angle 3.8x optical zoom and Image Stabilizer technology gives you steady zoom processes.
2. Measure the camera. It's 3.5 inches by 2.3 inches by 1 inch, and is only weighs 7.2 ounces. The SD800 has a great battery life, and you can hold it in the palm of your hand. You even get an optical viewfinder, which is getting hard to find on today's digital cameras.
3. Familiarize yourself with the DIGIC III Image processor and wide-angle lens. You can edit movies, auto-rotate pictures and offer a slide show that is state-of-the-art.
4. Find your creative genius with Color Accent, Color Swap, Auto-Exposure, and Auto-Focus. Changing the color of your photographs is truly overwhelming.
5. View your shots with the thumbnail observation window. You can make your own panorama view by using PhotoStitch (a separate program).
6. Read the basic manual first, then the more complex instructions, which come in a separate guide.
Use a spotting scope and camera for birding and other photography projects where proximity isn't an option and the subject is small.
Coupling a spotting scope, tripod and camera is a great way to build in super-zoom functionality for your camera. Use it for birding and other photography projects where proximity isn't an option and the subject is small. Cameras can be attached to certain spotting scopes with two inexpensive accessories---a telephoto camera mount and a camera body adapter. Focusing takes place on the scope.
Instructions
1. Mount the spotting scope and camera assembly onto a tripod. A car window mount will likely produce blurry photos as any movement will affect the image. Shield the scope from wind for that reason too.
2. Turn the zoom power ring on the scope to the desired magnification, say 60x.
3. Adjust your camera settings. You should use the fully automatic mode to begin with as you concentrate on composing the shot, keeping the assembly still and focusing. If you want to use manual settings keep in mind 60x magnification will provide an approximate focal length of 4000 mm with no image sensor size adjustment factor. You will need to experiment based on your scope, amount of daylight and sensor size. An effective f/stop could be f/64 and the shutter speed could be 1/15, 1/30. Check the manuals that came with the camera, scope, adapter and mount.
4. Turn off any auto focus options on the camera and focus the scope---for all intents and purposes the scope is now your camera lens---so the image on the viewfinder or LCD display is clear.

Hidden microphones are know as "bugs" because they are inconspicuous. Bugs use wireless technology to transmit audio that they pick up. This makes it possible to locate the bug, since the wireless frequency is separate and different from the other, more prevalent frequencies found in daily use (such as from wireless home networks). You can detect a bug by using an audio frequency detector that will locate and then zero in on the bug once it has found the frequency it is employing. All audio frequency detectors work in a similar fashion, with slight differences, and require patience to be used effectively.
Instructions
1. Insert fresh batteries into the battery compartment of the audio frequency detector. Turn the audio frequency detector on.
2. Stand at the entrance to the room or area that you want to check for a bug. Holding the audio frequency detector in front of you at mid-chest level, slowly walk toward the center of the room or area.
3. Walk to the left wall of the room or area and then back to the center. Repeat this procedure with the other three corners of the room or area.
4. Stop walking when the audio frequency detector displays a flashing LED light and makes a "buzzing" warning sound.
5. Switch the control knob of the audio frequency detector from "detection" mode to "verify" mode. While holding the audio frequency detector at mid-chest level, walk in the direction that causes the "buzzing" warning sound to change pitch and increase in intensity.
6. Stop walking when the "buzzing" warning sound is as loud as it can be. Turn off the audio frequency detector. Search the immediate area for the bug that has been discovered. Deactivate the bug by removing its battery or pulling out any exposed wires.

Silhouette images are one of the most dramatic uses of backlighting.
The backlighting in a photo refers to the light that comes from behind the subject. It goes against the traditional advice many beginner photographers are taught, which is to shoot with the sun at your back. But if done right, this advanced lighting technique can create drama, shape and dimension in your photo.
Instructions
Studio Backlighting
1. Place a studio light behind your subject facing toward the camera. Use the subject to hide the fixture so it isn't in the photo and the light doesn't glare into the lens, causing flare.
2. Adjust the height until you receive your desired effect. If placed properly, you will see a halo of light shimmering around the subject. This backlighting technique is especially effective for separating the subject from the background.
3. Turn the studio light around to face the background to achieve a silhouette effect. Even though you will only be able to see the black outline of your subject, focus sharply so the silhouette edges are crisp.
Natural Backlight
4. Turn your subject's back toward the sun so you are shooting into the light. The placement of the sun in the sky will greatly affect the lighting. The lower the sun is in the sky and the more your camera is pointed at the sun, the more lens flare there will be.
5. Switch the camera to manual and set the exposure by getting in very close to the subject and reading your camera's built-in light meter. Otherwise, you're camera will evaluate the lighting for the overall scene and because of the very bright background, your subject will appear too dark in the image.
6. Use the on-camera flash as a fill light, if necessary, to illuminate the face of your subject more.
7. Create a silhouette by allowing the camera to expose for the overall image instead of the subject. Use your auto setting or experiment with the manual settings. To make the subject a richer black, use a smaller aperture setting.
8. Use the sun as a backlight to show a subject's transparency by placing it so the sun shines through it. Don't place the subject directly in front of the sun so you are not shooting into the sun and risking flare.

Although they are high-precision optical devices, most compact disc players provide trouble-free operation for years if they aren't abused. When something does go wrong, it's often an easy fix.
Instructions
1. Intermittent or No Sound, Weak Volume, Poor Sound Quality. Check all cable connections to make sure they're secure. Replace the cable connecting the CD unit to your receiver. Clean the contacts on the player and receiver with electronics-grade contact cleaner.
2. Discs Skipping. Make sure CDs are clean and unscratched. Clean the laser lens.
3. Discs Not Recognized After Loading. Make sure discs are loaded the right way. Most, but not all, players load discs with the printed label on top. If player has a transportation lock (usually a screw on the bottom of the unit), make sure it is not engaged. Clean the laser lens.
4. Problems With Door Opening or Closing. Make sure the drawer-loading belt is still tight and elastic. If not, it can be replaced with a belt obtained from an electronic-parts supplier. The replacement should be of equal or slightly greater thickness and should fit snugly but not so tightly that it strains the motor. Check for broken or loose gears and have them replaced. Check for obvious sources of contamination such as pet hair or foreign objects that are preventing smooth operation of moving parts. Small children have a habit of inserting items into CD players. Use electronics-grade contact cleaner to clean the door-position contacts.
5. Disc Number Not Displaying. Make sure disc was not inserted upside down. Check to see if disc is warped, scratched or damaged. Insert new disc to see if disc is causing the problem. There may be moisture on laser pickup. Allow machine to remain on for 20 to 30 minutes before you attempt to reuse it.
6. Remote Control Does Not Work. Sunlight or fluorescent light may be interfering with remote control sensor on CD player. Reposition CD player or fluorescent light.
Straps are an important part of the accordion player's instrument because they enable her to hold it properly. The accordion is held against the front of the torso and the straps go around the player's back to secure it in position. There are two straps for an accordion, each different in length, and they are often padded for comfort. You will need a measuring tape to ascertain the size of the straps you will need for your accordion.
Instructions
1. Take rough measurements of your size. Hold the beginning of the measuring tape against the left side of your chest.
2. Loop the measuring tape over your left shoulder, pull it underneath your left arm and bring it to your navel. Take the measurement at this point. Do not pull the measuring tape tightly or else the strap will be too short.
3. Place the measuring tape against the left side of your chest again, and then loop it over your right shoulder. Again, bring the tape around to your navel and take the measurement.
4. Note down both measurements. These are your approximate strap sizes. However, straps (unless they are custom made), are only made to certain lengths. Select the size that most closely matches these measurements. Straps have buckles so you can always make them shorter, if they are too long.

Secure Digital cards or SD cards, as commonly known, are available in three different varieties. Of these, microSD is the smallest. microSD cards are used in smart phones. As with any other type of SD card, microSD cards incur damage by sudden removal or a power cut during data transfer. Easily fix most of these problems, unless the card incurs physical damage, in which case it will need replacing.
Instructions
1. Download a data recovery program of your choice if you want to attempt to retrieve data from the damaged card before formatting. Choose a data recovery program that provides features for recovering data from flash memory cards and file systems. Install the software and run the data recovery process. Most data-recovery applications provide a wizard-driven interface to make it easier to use.
2. Insert the microSD card into the adapter. All new microSD cards come with an adapter for reading in any SD card reader. Insert the adapter containing the card into the computer's card reader. Open "Computer" after clicking on the Start orb. Locate your SD card in the explorer window, right click on it and choose "Format." Check the box "Quick format" if it is not selected already. Do not change any of the other settings from their defaults. Click "OK" and leave the computer to format the card.
3. Download a specialized SD card formatter and start it up. Find an SD card formatting utility at either the SDcard website or the website of your card's manufacturer. Navigate through the on-screen prompts to format the card. If this method does not work, your microSD card probably incurred physical damage and may need replacing.

Digital photo frames differ from standard photo frames not only in the way the photos are displayed in the frame, digitally instead of in print form, but also in the fact that digital photo frames can run slide shows that allow the images to change automatically so that you can display multiple photos in the same frame without any manual changing. Unlike non-digital frames, which come in standard print sizes, like 8-by-10 and 5-by-7, digital frames come in sizes that do not adhere to any print standards.
Standard Size Frames
Digital photo frames are not offered in standard print sizes. Instead the screens of digital frames are measured using the same diagonal measurement used to measure television screens. Though you cannot buy digital frames in standard sizes, some digital frames come close to standard frame sizes. A 7-inch digital frame, for instance, has a display that is close in sizehowever, to a 4-by-6 picture frame, according to J&R Electronics.
Range of Sizes
When you go shopping for a digital photo frame, you can find frames in nearly any screen size, ranging between 7 and 15 inches through most retailers. The digital frame size that is closest to a standard 8-by-10 photo frame is 13 inches, though many frames have some form of border or matting, which makes the opening in many 15-inch frames close to 8-by-10 inches.
Large Scale Frames
If you want to display digital images on a large-scale, you can buy digital poster frames. These frames, which are similar to flat-screen TVs, are ideal for businesses that want to display advertisements or services. If you want to display images on a large-scale at home, a digital poster frame will work, but you should prepare for the expense, because the prices on digital poster frames are often upwards of $1,000, at the time of publication.
Small Scale Frames
On the other end of the size spectrum are mini digital photo frames. Like standard digital frames, mini frames come in a range of sizes and are often used to create novelty items like key chains and magnets. You can often find mini frames and products that have mini digital frames built-in for less than $10, at the time of publication.

Mil dot rifle scopes are accurate tools for measuring distance without the need for lasers, multiple measurements or complicated math. To calculate distance using mil dot rifle scopes, you just need to know interpret the reticle view and make a simple calculation. If you're sharp, you can just do the calculation in your head; otherwise, a table or small calculator is sufficient.
Instructions
1. Locate in the reticle the object whose distance you want to calculate. You need to have at least a good estimate of the size of the object (width or height, in meters or yards) to get an accurate distance result.
2. Focus the image in the scope if necessary. The sharper the view, the easier it'll be to get a good distance measurement.
3. Measure the object using the mil dots in the reticle. You can easily measure to half or quarter mils and, with experience, measure to tenth mils.
4. Divide the width or height in meters or yards of the object by the number of mils. This is the most difficult part of the process, and you can use a table or small calculator if you can't do the calculation in your head.
5. Multiply the result from Step 4 by 1,000. This result is the range of the object in yards.

Water photography is one of the most challenging areas for a new photographer. Water tends to have a lot of movement, can create a number of unwanted reflections and can require more specialized equipment than the standard amateur photographer usually has available. However, with some practice, photographs of ponds and lakes can be among the most iconic and mesmerizing in a photography portfolio. Any photographer wishing to expand his talents into the realm of landscape photography should learn properly photograph bodies of water.
Instructions
1. Use a wide angle lens on your camera to capture a broad landscape. Unless you are planning specifically to shoot creatures in the water, there tend not to be specific details in ponds and lakes that require the use of a long telephoto lens. Wider lenses will give your photographs more context and, as a result, more visual appeal.
2. Attach a polarizing filter to your lens. These filters remove glare from the surface of the water. In ripply ponds and lakes, this can be the difference between a good photograph and a great one.
3. Shoot in the morning or at dusk to avoid harsh mid-day lighting. Additionally, there tends to be less activity in ponds or lakes during this time, and less wind, which means the amount of waves and ripples in the water will be reduced.
4. Set your camera to a small aperture (large f-stop number). Anything between f/8 and f/22 should provide sufficient depth of field to keep the entire pond or lake in sharp focus.
5. Choose a slow shutter speed to induce a slight blur on the water. The effects of ripples can be minimized with a slower shutter speed, and longer exposures will give a desirable "milky" quality to the pond or lake. Anything slower than 1/15 of a second will achieve this effect, but exposures of 1/2 of a second or longer are best.
6. Mount your camera on a tripod to minimize the effect of camera shake during long exposures.

Just like any LCD TV, the 46-inch Polaroid TLA-04641C can potentially suffer from problems that impact your viewing and listening pleasure. To help you correct these problems, the TV's official service manual provides troubleshooting strategies. Polaroid, which is well-known for its innovations in photography, released the TLA-04641C in 2007. As of 2011, the TV is no longer in production.
TV Won't Turn On
If the Polaroid TLA-04641C fails to turn on when you press the power button on the TV unit or on the TV's remote control, you may be able to remedy the problem by ensuring that the TV's power cord is securely plugged into a functioning electrical power outlet. If the connection is secure and the outlet is functioning, it is possible that the Polaroid TLA-04641C has blown a fuse. As the service manual notes, the TV is equipped with a safety fuse to provide protection in the event of a power outage or electrical storm. To access the fuse, pry open the fuse panel on the back of the TV using a sturdy plastic tool. Using a metal tool could cause a shock. Replace the fuse with a 4A 250V 5x20mm time lag fuse.
Picture-in-Picture Problem
Picture-in-picture is a feature that allows a TV to display a second, smaller screen within the corner of the larger, main screen. By turning picture-in-picture on, you can watch two channels simultaneously. If you are unable to get picture-in-picture to work with the Polaroid TLA-04641C, it is likely a result of an incorrect input source. Picture-in-picture does not work with the TV's Component 1 or Component 2 input sources. So if you want to use the feature, change the TV's input source.
No Picture or No Sound
In some instances, the Polaroid TLA-04641C may fail to display an on-screen picture and/or fail to produce sound. To remedy such problems, make sure that all of the connections between the TV and peripheral components are secure. Such components can include cable boxes, satellites receivers, DVD players and speakers. Alternative remedies for a lack of picture or sound include changing the TV's Video and Audio Function setting and changing the TV's AD Board Box setting.
Parental Control Problems
If you are having trouble setting the Polaroid TLA-04641C TV's Parental Controls, enter in the password "0000." This is the factory preset password, and you must enter it in before you can set a personal password. If you lose your personal password or are unable to remember it, enter in the TV'S master password: 8202. The master password overrides all other passwords. Keep in mind, however, that you cannot change the master password, so make sure to keep it away from children.

The standard way to listen to satellite radio in your car is to connect the satellite radio receiver to your car stereo's auxiliary port. This connects the receiver directly to your radio and provides crystal clear audio. This is great for newer cars with newer stereos, but it is impossible if your stereo doesn't have an auxiliary port. For those with older models, it is important to know that they are still able to access satellite radio in their car.
Instructions
1. Buy an FM transmitter. This is a device that takes the audio from something like an iPod or satellite radio and transmits it over short distances, enabling the signal to be picked up and played by the stereo in a car. Certain satellite radio companies will produce their own brand-name FM transmitters, though any unit found in any major electronics retailer will do. Certain brands of satellite radio receivers (like models produced by SiriusXM) will have an FM transmitter built in.
2. Plug your FM transmitter into your satellite radio receiver. The cord on the end of the transmitter will plug directly into the satellite radio receiver's auxiliary port. Some models may be powered by batteries, while others will require you to plug them into your car's cigarette lighter.
3. Tune your car stereo's FM radio to a station that is free from broadcasts. Search around the dial until you find a station that is completely clear of music and is filled with static.
4. Tune your FM transmitter to the same radio station currently programmed into your car stereo.
5. Press "start" on your satellite radio receiver. The signal being picked up by the receiver will be transferred to the FM transmitter, which will in turn be transmitted to the radio station that your car's stereo is tuned to. This will play the satellite radio over your car's speaker system.

A small tape recorder is a great way to keep track of your thoughts throughout the day. Many creative people use tape recorders to keep track of new ideas or concepts, while doctors have been known to use them for notes and students often use them as a way to store lectures. No matter why you have decided to implement a tape recorder into your life, using one is a fairly straightforward process.
Instructions
1. Put fresh batteries in the tape recorder to ensure it is ready to operate. Depending on the model you have chosen, you will probably need to place AA or AAA batteries into a panel on the back of the recorder.
2. Insert a blank tape into the tape recorder. Most new recorders will come with at least one blank tape, and you can usually pick up spares at the same place you bought the device. Be sure to check the product manual to find the correct tape size.
3. Place the recorder in an easy to remember location to make it easier to bring along to important events. One of the hardest things about using a tape recorder to keep track of your thoughts and ideas is remembering to put it in your pocket.
4. Rewind the tape to its beginning. This will give you the full length of the tape for recording purposes.
5. Press the "Record" button. This button is usually marked with a red circle and may even be completely red.
6. Speak into the microphone on the recorder at a normal tone. When you're finished with what you needed to record, hit the Stop button.
7. Use the Rewind and Play buttons to go over your notes at the end of the day.
When you want to capture a wide-angle image, the fisheye lens provides the ability to include a large field of vision. To do this, however, it utilizes a hemispherical shape, similar to the eye of a fish, in order to capture an extensive radius. When viewing the printed image, the center will appear close to normal but the outer elements will appear very distorted.
Instructions
1. Use a fisheye lens for special architectural effects when capturing a large building. Try composing the frame with an image in the foreground and use the sloping background to enhance the theme. For instance, using a fisheye lens when shooting a tulip field in Holland adds interest when foreground flowers feature prominently and a quaint windmill farm frames the background.
2. Compose your image with a straight line only in the middle. Because the fisheye lens distorts anything off center in the frame, the only lines that will appear perfectly straight are those in the exact middle. Any lines falling above or below the exact center will appear distorted and the further away the line travels from the center, the greater the distortion.
3. Zoom out to increase the circular distortion in your image. At full extension, the fisheye lens creates a round image, drawing side elements inward and compressing the outside elements in the circle.
4. Reduce the focal length to use the fisheye lens as a wide-angle lens. The shorter the focal range, the less distortion your image will portray. When zoomed all the way in, your fisheye lens can double for a wide-angle lens, but you will still have some barrel distortion towards the perimeter of the image.

Today's camcorders are packed with features and conveniences. They are often so compact that they fit into your shirt pocket or even a large fanny pack. One of the drawbacks of personal camcorders is that their small size does not give users great sound quality because the internal microphones have been downsized to fit the small frame. Therefore, many video enthusiasts use an external microphone to improve the audio quality on their camcorders.
To use an external microphone, you need a camcorder that has a built-in microphone jack. Look for camcorders outfitted with an accessory shoe so that you can mount the microphone on top of the camcorder instead of holding it in your hand. The microphone's cable connects to the jack with an audio cable. The pin on the end of the cable must match the jack size.
Styles
External microphones for camcorders come in several styles. Omnidirectional microphones pick up sound coming from any direction near the camcorder. Unidirectional microphones only record sounds coming from the direction that the microphone is pointing. Both these styles have low-end options that cost less than $50. The pricier varieties can run you several hundred dollars. A shotgun microphone is helpful when you need to point the microphone at a particular location or person. This allows you to isolate that sound from others near the camcorder. You can purchase shotgun microphones for less than $50, but better quality shotgun microphones can cost thousands.
You can also use a lavalier microphone to add audio to you video recordings. These microphones can clip onto to the clothing of the speaker, instead of being mounted on an accessory shoe or a microphone stand. Standard lavalier microphones are usually omnidirectional. Some camcorders work with wireless microphones. This setup requires a microphone and receiver and a transmitter. A good quality wireless microphone with a receiver that is small enough to fit on a camcorder will normally cost around $500. Radio interference is one drawback associated with wireless microphones.
Usage Tips
Some camcorders have settings that allow you to adjust the audio mode from 12-bit to 16-bit input. Although 16-bit produces CD-quality recording, 12-bit mode only uses two sound channels. This leaves two free channels for future dubbing and adding tracks to the original audio. Most professionals prefer lavalier and shotgun microphones over handhelds. They also recommend using a wind jacket to decrease wind noise when recording.
Once you connect your external microphone to the camcorder, you will need to check the sound quality and the position of the microphone. Unless your camcorder is mounted on an accessory shoe, it may cast shadows on the lens or even show up in your video. It takes some practice to position the microphone properly for optimum sound and video quality. Do a few test videos. Use headphones to listen to the audio recording, if your camcorder has a headphone jack. Adjust the microphone position until you get the sound quality that you need.

Most digital cameras feature a histogram function. A histogram, similar to a light meter used for film photography, is a graph of the distribution of light throughout the photo and gives you an accurate depiction of the current exposure of the shot you are about to take. Understanding histogram information can make for better photographs that require less adjustment in the photo editor.
Instructions
1. Frame up your shot the way you want it, with the proper lens or zoom setting, and focus it.
2. Enter the histogram mode to map out the light in your framed shot. You will see a graph. Peaks on the left side indicate pixels that are in shadow, peaks on the right side pixels receiving a lot of light, and peaks in the middle indicate properly exposed pixels.
3. Open your aperture by setting your camera at a smaller f-stop number if you have too many peaks on the left side, to better expose the darker areas.
4. Close your aperture by setting a higher f-stop number if you have too many peaks on the right side, to prevent overexposure and blowing out the shot.

Several factors determine whether an old camera, like a Brownie or Instamatic, will be a valuable commodity sought after by collectors. Camera collecting is a popular hobby but there are so many brands and models that collectors usually specialize in one segment of the field. For example, some collectors may specialize in nineteenth-century wood cameras while others may be interested in finding all of the models of a particular brand, such as Kodak.
Instructions
1. First examine the camera to determine its condition. Take into consideration whether the camera works properly. Note if there are scratches on the lens or view finder, or any scratches or damage on the case. Check carefully the amount of wear or fading on the markings surrounding the lens.
2. Identify the brand and model of camera. Major camera manufacturers produce several lines of cameras to appeal to a larger customer base. Models that are popular with collectors will have a greater resale value than unpopular mass-produced cameras with poor resolution and fixed lenses.
3. Check with a camera collector, either on the Internet or in person, to determine the rarity of your camera. Rarity is a major factor when determining how much an old camera is worth. The value increases when the demand by collectors is greater than the available supply.
4. Research the time line of camera development to find out if your camera was the first model to introduce a new feature. Historical cameras are generally worth more than second-generation models.
5. Find the original packaging and manual that was with the camera when it was new. Collectors prefer a complete package when possible.
6. Check the prices that similar cameras the have sold for recently. Read the description carefully to make sure that the cameras sold are the exact model and in the same condition as yours.
The 1-800 toll-free system as we now know it was invented in 1978. At that time and for many years later, "800" was the only exchange that was toll-free. However, with the rise in demand, the list has expanded to include 877, 888 and 866.
Even though many companies have toll-free numbers, they are not always listed in a manner that is easy to find. In the age of the Internet, finding such a number--whether it be an 800 number or one on another toll-free exchange--is simple. Even if you don't have access to the web, it is still only a phone call away.
Instructions
1. Call toll-free directory assistance at (800) 555-1212. This is the 411 of toll free numbers. It is solely an automated system; you will need to clearly speak the name of the business whose number you are searching for. Extra information, such as location, is not required. If the automated system cannot understand you, it will direct you to visit the website we have listed in Resources.
2. Visit an online phone directory. Superpages and Yellowbook are the two main sites. There are others,, however, including (but not limited to) tollfreeda.com, inter800.com, anywho.com/tf and internettollfree.com. Type in the name of business and scroll through the results.
3. Visit the business' website. Type the name of the business in your preferred search engine and locate its homepage. Usually you will see a "Contact Us" button on a toolbar located either at the top or to the side. Sometimes, it is in very small print at the bottom of the page. Click this link and scan the entire page to find the company's toll-free number.

As an alternative to traditional framing, floating picture frames keep images centered, away from the edges of the frame itself. The modernistic floating effect adds contemporary style to any space, blending nicely with existing color schemes since the underlying wall-color is allowed to show through the glass. Additionally, the image itself can be completely displayed, with none of the edges being cut off by matting or framing. Floating picture frames may look more complicated than traditional frames, but they are used in much the same way in just a few simple steps.
Instructions
1. Determine how much extra space you want between the floating image and the frame itself, then select a floating frame with dimensions to match. Unless you're going for an eclectic look, keep the floating space the same on all sides. For example, if you're framing a 4-by-6-inch picture, and you want 2 inches of float space around the edges, get a 6-by-8-inch floating frame.
2. Remove the back of the floating frame. Floating frames are much like regular frames, but their backing consists of a transparent glass pane.
3. Place your photograph in the frame.
4. Measure the photograph's distance from the frame's edges with a ruler. Make sure all sides are even. It may seem picky, but floating frames will show every minor inconsistency, whereas standard picture frames or matted pictures have the benefit of hiding edges with overlap.
5. Place the glass backing back on the frame, making sure not to accidentally nudge the photograph---if you do bump the picture, open the frame back up and re-measure.
6. Secure the backing then hold up the floating frame to a wall to see how it will look. When you find a spot on the wall that looks good, mark the spot lightly with a pencil.
7. Use a stud finder to find a wall stud near the pencil mark and place a nail or screw in the stud. Erase the pencil mark.
8. Hang your floating picture frame on the nail or screw.

Sony's Digital8 camcorders record at three times the color bandwidth of VHS.
Sony's Digital8 camcorders record at three times the color bandwidth of VHS. They provide for significantly less video noise, too. The devices record onto Hi8 tapes. The Sony digital camcorders can also playback analog Hi8 tape. Problems can arise when recording, playback and when using Memory Sticks --- Memory Stick is Sony's own-brand of flash memory. Issues can be corrected by following some troubleshooting steps.
Instructions
1. Set the power switch to the "Camera" position if the "Start/Stop" doesn't function in recording mode. Check that the tape hasn't run out. Rewind the tape and record over it, or insert a new one. Set the power switch to "Off" and then back to "Camera" if the power goes off after a few minutes of inactivity. It's a normal condition to save power, but the camera needs to be reset.
2. Switch the power switch to "VCR" if the tape doesn't move when a video control button is pressed in playback mode. Check there's tape if the "Playback" button won't function. Check that the battery pack is installed; install a fresh battery pack if no lights come on at all on the camera when you power it up. Discard the existing battery pack and replace it if the battery becomes quickly discharged.
3. Move the power switch to the "Memory" position if the Memory Stick won't work. Remove the Memory Stick and check that the lock switch isn't on. Delete any unnecessary images on the Memory Stick and try the recording again if the Memory Stick has been used a lot --- it might be full.
